INTRODUCING
LY C E U M

The name “Lyceum” comes from a Latin rendering of ancient Greek. Scholars would converge
in a hall for public lectures, discussions, entertainment, and ultimately — learning. This
education was characterised by excellence and accessibility; values that live on in Lyceum
College today.

Lyceum’s rich heritage draws from years on the education scene. Our niche,
industry-relevant programmes are embodied with all the benefits of distance learning.

In our 102 years, we’ve empowered over 800 000 graduates. They’ve balanced their work and
social lives with the rigours of securing a quality qualification. Now you have the opportunity
to join their ranks with Lyceum.

You need to seize every

opportunity that comes your way.

Q U A L I F I C AT I O N S
When you successfully complete a programme at Lyceum, you will be awarded with a
qualification. The level of qualification is dependent on the type of programme and its
duration. Many students at Lyceum start with a higher certificate and work their way to a
degree. As such we have structured our programme offerings to ensure students receive a
full learning journey, which rewards their efforts and progress.

BACHELOR’S DEGREE:
With a bachelor’s degree, you will demonstrate a mastery of theory and practical skills
required for the workplace. A bachelor’s degree is often pivotal for entry into certain fields
and critical for taking on a management position. Lyceum’s bachelor’s degrees are designed
to create leaders that are able to use information to develop strong opinions and strategies
to solve problems they encounter on the field and in the office. Our degrees take three or six
years of studying to complete.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA:
With a postgraduate diploma, you can make a meaningful contribution to society while
opening doors to a wider variety of career paths. When you complete an advanced diploma,
you can register for a postgraduate diploma and earn this qualification over one or two years
of study. Develop a deeper understanding of your field of interest and build niche skills and
specialised knowledge.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA:
An advanced diploma is less rigorous than a degree, but offers you a significant level of
expertise within your industry of specialisation. This is aimed at professionals wishing to add
to their knowledge base and build further practical skills. Lyceum’s advanced diplomas take
a year or two of studying making it a quick and effective means to achieve an additional
qualification.

DIPLOMA:
A diploma is similar to a degree, but focuses primarily on industry-oriented or vocational
training. Practical proficiency is key here. You will gain in-depth specialisation and be prepared
to directly apply your skills in the workplace. Lyceum’s diplomas can be completed in three
or six years of studying. They form the springboard for students wishing to register for an
advanced diploma.

HIGHER CERTIFICATE:
Our higher certificates comprise of one, two or three years of study. They are aimed at
equipping you with industry skills that you require to excel in your chosen field. Gain an
elementary knowledge and display practical aptitude and critical thinking with a higher
certificate.

Note about Recognition of Prior Learning: If you have learned through formal, informal or non-formal
means, you can have this recognised to fulfil the requirements of your qualification. Contact Lyceum to
find out more.

D E S C R I PT I O N :
The Lyceum Bachelor of Commerce in Management degree is strongly finance and accounting
orientated to enable students to enter one of the most under-supplied career options in South Africa,
and indeed globally. There is an enormous shortage of experienced graduates in the finance and
accounting disciplines and it is imperative that these positions be filled with competent practitioners.
Not only will students be able to master the financial and accounting functions in a company, but the
degree will also focus on business management in the public and private sectors. By obtaining the
Lyceum’s Bachelor of Commerce in Management degree, students will become qualified to take a
leading role in the South African commerce and industry.

A recent survey indicates that more than 40% of the top posts in the country are filled by candidates
with financial management qualifications. The management and other non-financial components of
this degree provide a well-rounded platform for success in management positions in all sectors of the
market. This degree will ensure that Lyceum graduates are adequately capacitated to fill commanding
roles within industry and commerce. With this degree as part of your CV, you will be able to embark on
a career with the potential to lead.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

S A Q A I D : 83546 | N Q F LE V EL 6 | C R E D I T S : 1 4 0

DESCRIPTION:

The Advanced Certificate in Project Management is a one-year learning programme that

enables the learner to plan, establish, implement and manage fairly complex to complex
projects. Strong ‘drivers’ for advanced project management training and development
include the need to provide a comprehensive set of competencies that will enable the
learner to achieve these objectives.

In addition to large-scale projects, all businesses have the need to implement ongoing
development in the form of smaller projects. This programme responds to this need by
providing students with a range of relevant theoretical and practical project management
and administrative skills that will increase opportunities for their successful contribution
towards our national developmental goals.

This programme is directed primarily at persons with prior project management

knowledge, qualifications and work experience, and who would like to expand their project
management competencies in any sector of the economy. It will be of benefit to individuals
who intend to broaden their project management skills and who understand that a range of
additional project management skills form an integral part of any successful and responsive
work environment.

This programme provides students with knowledge and understanding of project
management, together with a range of interrelated skills and competencies. Current news
articles reflect the desperate shortages of project management skills in the public and private
sector. These skills are required in both large-scale construction projects as well as medium and
small scale in-house projects. This certificate is an excellent introduction to this critical field of
management and includes basic general management skills.

Project management skills are in demand in almost every institution. Project management allows
practitioners to conceptualise, develop and implement projects. It is not the exclusive domain of
the construction or building sector.

Successful candidates will be able to progress to the Lyceum Advanced Project Management
