The Ethics of Eating

Eating is a natural instinct to a human body. A lot of us like to try new foods from

different countries that we have never been to before. The majority of us enjoy eating meat. In

the article, “Ethics of Eating” by “Peter Singer”, he informs us that most of all the farm animals

we eat are getting treated poorly. So I bring up this question, should the majority of people go

vegetarian to continue how they are? Although farm animals get treated badly, that doesn’t

mean that we don’t need meat to survive. Meat has many proteins and is extremely rich in

nutrients and helps the human body grow. When you don’t eat meat as often or at all your body

will, in fact, become weak.

To start off, becoming vegetarian will a big risk at your body. I went into deep dive to find

out what would happen and what I found was basically common knowledge and the basic

necessity a human needs to be healthy and one of them was a good diet. A good diet can

increase you as a whole person. A healthy diet would include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans,

eggs, and nuts. Limit saturated and trans fats, sodium, and added sugars. In an article called

Healthy Eating is specifies, “Eating a healthy diet is not about strict limitations, staying

unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Rather, it’s about feeling great,

having more energy, improving your health, and boosting your mood.”, this is a great example

why eating the proper food can be beneficial and why going vegetarian can have some negative

effects on your body, so not only will you not be having an impact at saving farm animals life,

you will also have less energy to do activities such as going on strike for farm animals.

Another reason why going vegetarian can be bad is because many people won’t notice

you. Yes, you will decrease the income on meat-based stores that treat farm animals bad, but

instead of hurting your body and not being noticed I suggest buying items from an organic store

that give farm animals an enjoyable time before they become our food. This will point out that,

us the people, want to make sure our food is treated with respect and that they don’t suffer for

our survival. In the article “If you want to save the world, veganism isn’t the answer” by Isabella

Tree, it states that “Rather than being seduced by exhortations to eat more products made from

industrially grown soya, maize, and grains, we should be encouraging sustainable forms of meat

and dairy production based on traditional rotational systems, permanent pasture, and

conservation grazing.”, this brings up new ideas because it encourages us to seek out a better

option then going vegetarian. This shines a new light on us because this lets us be aware that

we don’t have to damage our bodies to support an opinion.

I see the point of view you are giving out about not becoming vegetarian, but if we go

vegetarian the factories will see that we are disliking the treatment of farm animals which is

poorly. Just take a look at what Peter singer had to say,” But they never leave the shed until they

are taken to slaughter.”, This brings up the concern that the farm animals aren’t having a decent

life and if we keep eating meat factories would not notice how they treat them as long as they

got their money's worth. Although you state a valid point about factories not caring unless it’s

about the money, you need to understand that we need the nutrients and protein for our body

and that there are many ways to get big companies to notice us, such as protest and standing

up to them and their misguided acts.

To conclude factories are mistreating farm animals and we as consumers need to find a

way to stop them from hurting the farm animals. We all eat what we want but that shouldn’t

mean that the animals we eat should be tortured and mistreated just for the human population

to be fed. Peter singer brings up fascinating points in his article” the Ethnic of Eating”, points

that we need to take seriously.
