Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Understanding devices

Objectives:

Students will be able to…Identify computing devices

Students will be able to… Use appropriate terminology and identifying hardware

Students will be able to… Recognize certain devices

State Standards:

K.CS.1.1 - Identify traditional computing devices (e.g., tablets, smartphones, desktops,

laptops) and non-traditional computing devices (e.g., microwave, oven, car).

K.CS.1.2 - Recognize that people use computing devices to perform tasks.

K.CS.2.1- Use appropriate terminology in naming and identifying hardware (e.g., monitor,
keyboard, mouse, earbuds, headphones, printer).

Context:

I am teaching this particular lesson because I feel students should know how to identify devices

by their right terminology. I also believe they should know this show they know what device to

perform certain tasks on them. The lesson that comes before this is learning how to use software

applications to create an authentic product. Previous knowledge students will be using is

knowing what software applications that may be on these certain devices. After this lesson it

teaches how to discover that computing devices and the internet enable us to connect with other

people, places, information, and ideas. The lesson in teaching prepares students for the next

lesson because they will know all the devices by their right terminology and recognize

computing devices to perform tasks. Lesson 1.1 will help students identify computing devices.

Lesson 1.2 will help students recognize people using certain computing devices to perform tasks.

Lesson 2.1 will teach students the appropriate terminology for identifying hardware.

Data: Students will be grouped into 2 or 3 depending on the student number. Students will be

based off of their previous class exit slip on how well they know about computing devices. Data

will be collected in this lesson through kahoot.

Materials: List all materials used (i.e. websites, apps, pencils, iPads, computers, worksheets,

diagrams, textbooks, etc.)

Procedures:

Introduction (1 5 minutes) :

I will start the lesson by asking students what they know about computer devices. I will then

name certain hardware to see if the students are familiar with any of it. We will discuss some of

the information that they know and regardless I will teach students the information they need to

know. I will then use the whiteboard to pull up certain pictures of devices and explain to them

what device it is and a brief explanation on how to use it. I will also show hardware and show
they how to identify it. I will make sure each student is clear about each device and the proper

usage behind all.

Teacher Directed (15 minutes) :

In this part of the lesson we will discuss what we already know about devices and identifying

hardware. I will ask students to name some of these devices and hardware. I will then show the

students a video of computing devices,

<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NegPD-f4B4A> on the board. After the video, I will ask

students what they remember about the video and what they have learned about computing

devices all together. I will then talk about how these devices work.

Collaborative (15 minutes):

In this lesson I will pull up an online bingo on a couple of the ipad/tablets that are in the

classroom. Students will pair up 2-3 people for group and create team names. These students will

work together to try to get “BINGO” by answering questions relating to computing devices and

identifying hardware. Students that win the game will get candy and keep rotating groups at least

2 times.

Independent Digital (20 minutes) :

In this part of the lesson students will be able to rewatch the video about computing devices to

refresh their memories. Then students will get a wokrsheet off of

and answer the questions. Whatever the students do not know or get incorrect, I will correct it

until they can find all the answers throughout searching through the videos. Students will work

the full twenty minutes trying to answer all the questions correctly. Having plenty of time to

work independently on their worksheets will help them remember the information they have

obtained within this lesson.

Closure (25 minutes):

At the end of the lesson students will tell me (the teacher) one thing what they have all learned

within this lesson. After this, students will grab an ipad. They will then pull up kahoot and type

the code in to start the kahoot game. I will then start the game. The winner of the kahoot game

will receive a ticket for a free use of a device at recess one day. After the game I will repeat

another game one more time. The winner of the next game will receive candy. After both games,

I will ask if they have any questions regarding the lesson.

Rationale:
Smartboard lesson-

I used this because it was a visual of the information of what we were learning. It supports

student learning my standards and objectives by explaining what exactly computing devices

are. I know it is of high quality because it is a reliable source and has some very factual

information throughout. This multimedia choice differentiate instruction for all learners

because it is a different and entertaining way of learning.

Kahoot-

I choose this type of multimedia because it is a fun app/game. It supports student learning

and my standards and objectives by testing students skills and knowledge on the topic. It is

of high-quality because it helps students learn and retain the information. This multimedia

choice differentiate instruction for all l earners because it is a un game that is successful in

teaching students the information.
