BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Parking apps are a big sigh of relief for metropolitan citizens, and we have all the right reasons to say
so. Struggling to find a vacant spot to park your vehicle is a day to day scenario that one doesn’t need to
imagine. Parking lots are nothing short of a maze, and the exponentially increasing number of cars in
big cities only adds to the trouble. Finding a parking spot closest to the elevator is like winning a lottery.
Moreover, remembering where you parked your car means this is one information that you need to hold
in the back of your mind till you drive back home.
Rapid unplanned urbanization has led to myriad of problems for the city dwellers. Tier 2 and Tier 3
cities and towns are also grappling with these problems. These problems are variegated and there is no
magic wand to end them all at one go. We need to go one by one and here we come into picture. One of
the major problems for the motorists in these cities and towns is the unavailability of parking spaces.

Objective

Our objective is to provide a feasible solution to this problem via tech interventions.
We propose a web application-based parking space pooling facility for organized as well as unorganized
space wherein a vacant parking land provider can list his/her available space which can be used for 2, 3
and 4-wheeler parking and a motorist can look up for the available space and book the same. The charges
would be on hourly basis and type of vehicle (2 or 3 wheelers, light 4-wheeler, heavy 4- wheeler, etc.).
The payment would be made on wallet linked point basis. Motorist needs to buy ParkifyPoints by
making a payment. These points can be used to pay to the parking space providers. The parking space
providers can accumulate these points and redeem it and transfer that money to banks. We are simply
acting as a facilitator for connecting the parking space providers and motorists looking for parking space.
We charge a nominal fee for each of the transactions. So, we are working on C2C model.

Which system to develop?

A number of potentials were put forward:

 Train ticketing application
 Touchscreen vending interface
 Photocopier
 Digital in-car interface infotainment system
 Automated car park app
 Mobile taxi app

2
The group jotted down the pros and cons for each of the above proposal in terms of how feasible the
type could be as a basis for our project, bearing in mind that it must enable us to undertake all the
subtasks of the exercise. After much discussion & deliberation we chose “automated car park app” for
the advantage of variety of test cases, competition to explore and most importantly room for
improvement.

Why & What?

Our perceived notions regarding car parking interfaces were unfavorable, based on the experience of
our group members who had already attempted to use them. One of us had tried an automated phone
line system to pay for parking and was fined because the system misheard their vehicle registration.

Some members instantly listed existing apps, and gave reasons for their lack of usability, specifically
concerning the sign-up process. This gave the group a positive sense that progress could be made in
developing a new system that addressed concerns from a number of existing systems.
In terms of project functionality scope, the sign-up process was identified as a key step in the user
experience in any application especially in this case, as the user must input their details, their vehicle
details and their payment information, and quite often will be doing so in a hurry.
Some websites provided services beyond what we thought was reasonable, such as in-app navigation.
As a group we decided the scope of our system would allow only the following core functions:
 Find car park using Maps API (without being able to navigate there within the app)
 Pay for parking
 Extend parking duration

Proposed Features
We have implemented the following features based on our research keeping in mind the feasibility and
relevancy of the features:
• 3 interfaces for the 3 different stakeholders- space provider, parking space seeker and admin.
• Built-in map for correctly pin pointing the location of the space available for easier navigability to the
location.
• Payment gateway
• Rating system for both the space provider and motorist.

• Complaint redressal and feedback platform to be used: The complete UI and the hosting of the
website is planned to be done on goDaddy.com. This platform would be used for the complete front-
end design to be taken as a part of the project.

Expected Outcome
A web-based application to resolve the parking space unavailability issue faced widely through all the
cities and towns. This would help in managing the demand of the space and the imbalance in the
parking of the vehicles in Tier 1 cities as well.
Finding a parking spot closest to the elevator is like winning a lottery.
Addressing this issue is the need of the hour because not everyone looking for a parking spot is going
for a movie. For some, it could be an urgent business meeting, or a medical emergency for others.

Issues solved by MyParkify

 Hard to locate vacant spots

 Multi space parking
 Confusing parking rules
 Unregulated tariffs
 On-street vs. off-street parking
 Cruising parking in residential areas
 Parking on special occasions

Submission

The project was developed using the waterfall model due to the following reasons:-
• Requirements are well known
• Product definition is stable

4
• Technology is understood
• Team is relatively inexperienced

Future Scope

The future scope of the application is that this online smart parking system (OSPS) can be displayed on
a space availability satellite navigation device or even as a smart phone application.
The proposed system reduces drive frustration and traffic by providing nearest parking area and
available slot. As smart parking system increase the service levels in operation, there is a lot of scope
for innovations and implementation through data standardization and management, mobile phone
integration, hardware and software integration.

It can be developed in future for wide area so that it can help people on large scale. In future this
application can be implemented on the existing operation systems like ios and windows. it would also
be viable to add some extra features like extend the time period of booked slot and should be possible
to send message to user before expired time period.

Conclusion

In the above study, we have made an effort to present a smart parking system. With the plug & play
and interoperable parking technology, it solves some of the major parking problems including
confusing parking rules, difficulty in finding vacant spots, multi space parking, on-street vs. off-street
parking, parking on special occasions, cruising parking in the residential areas, etc.
As presented in the study above, the implementation of the smart parking system has the efficiency in
alleviating the traffic problem that arises especially in the city area where traffic congestion and the
insufficient parking spaces are undeniable. The mission is to make the user free from the hassles of
everyday travel by making it faster and easier to get where we need to go, so that we can focus on the
destination. MyParkify makes easy to find and pay for parking without running back to feed the meter.
Also, the spots can be reserved ahead of time for concerts and sporting events. With the provision of
more than a million spots, MyParkify gives us a smarter way to park when we're on the go.
