PMP Certification: Next Steps

Congratulations! You just completed the first phase of the Global Delivery Excellence Framework (GDEF) deployment.
Are you unsure of the next steps? Your PMP certification will be obtained through the Project Management Institute, the
leading membership association for the project management profession. Learn more about the application process by
watching this video.

There are 4 parts to obtaining your PMP certificate: application process, test preparation, taking the exam and maintenance.
Now let’s break it down:

1. Application

Join the Project Management Institute
(PMI) and read the PMI handbook for
more information on the PMP process.
You must be a member of the PMI to
apply for the test.
Submit your application – As a Payment & Test Center
reminder, you will need to complete Pay for the exam using your
35 hours of project management corporate credit card, and
education before you can register find the nearest testing
for the test. location center here.

2. 3 Ways to Prepare

On-site classroom classes –
Velociteach will be available for
a 3-day test preparation course at
a CDM Smith office. CDM Smith U
will coordinate the logistics and
registration for this option about six
months after you complete the first
GDEF implementation training. This is
the recommended approach.
Virtual classroom – Velociteach
will also offer a virtual 3-day test
preparation course, scheduled through
CDM Smith U, that is taught via
GotoMeeting and can be taken from
any location. It is highly encouraged to
participate in the in-person class with
your fellow PMs.
Online self-paced study program –
This option is done through your own
prep classes that you find helpful.
CDM Smith U, through Lynda, offers a
myriad of training courses to help you
study and prepare for the test. Visit

3. Taking the test
