LESSON PLAN

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. identify the main idea and supporting details in a passage (EN7V-IV-d-23)
2. demonstrate the knowledge and strategies on getting the main idea of a given passage
(EN7RC-IV-g-10.4)
3. create supporting details for a given passage (EN7WC-IV-d-1.1.6)

 Mystery boxes

III. Procedure
A. Routine
 Warm Up Exercise: Head, shoulders, knees & toes
B. Motivation/ Springboard
 It’s in the Box!
The class will be divided into groups to look through mystery boxes of supporting details and
determine the “main idea” of each box. They will make a conclusion sentence that summarizes
the main idea of each box, and share their findings with the class.
C. Lesson Proper
 The class will be divided into groups (preferably by rows) and make them read a passage
(varied) provided by the teacher/s and discuss and describe to the whole class how they
were able to determine the main idea of a given selection.

 Brief Discussion of the topic: Main Idea and Tips on Distinguishing Relevant and Irrelevant
Ideas

D. Generalization/Synthesis
 Video presentation summarizing the topic
 Assessment/Self Check: Worksheet about Main Idea and Supporting Details

IV. Assignment
 Write a composition on a desired topic. Make sure that your content supports your
chosen topic.
