and Ir it seems that she would be attentive to this

2 case considering the circumstances and the

3 consequences that are being faced, you know. What

4 I'm getting is a total disregard.

5 What's happening in this case, Your Honor, is

6 that Mr. Bossen has procrastinated, and what he

7 does is he's going to wait until the Court forces

him and puts him on a fast track to prepare my

defense. Just as the State was just talking about

e November date, then what happens, Mr. Bossen
11 has to hastily scurry around and --

12 THE COURT: Okay.

DEFENDANT: -- prepare a cursory defense.

14 THE COURT: Stop.

15 THE DEFENDANT: I know, I'm referring back to

16 Mr. Bossen and I shouldn't be.

17 TÈE COURT: Correct.

18 THE DEFENDANT: Yes, sir.

THE COURT: Is there anything else with

20 Ms . Jamieson that you haven ' t told me?

21 THE DEFENDANT: No, sir.

22 THE COURT: Okay. Mr. Bossen, first let's

23 address the petition for a Nelson hearing that

24 Mr. Tillis originally filed, and I know we had had

25
a discussion at one of the previous court dates

a little surprised...but
glad.
I know.

1 THE COURT: Okay. So having said all these

2 things to your are you sure you wish to go forward

3 with this decision?

4 THE DEFENDANT: Yes, sir. I'm moving forward.

5 THE COURT: And you understand that if I allow

6 you to represent yourself then I can appoint

7 standby counsel to represent you?

8 THE DEFENDANT: The standby counsel would only

9 be in affect if in the event that I got to a

10 proceeding that I didn't feel comfortable handling

11 myself; is that...

12 THE COURT: They're going to do absolutely

br 13 nothing on your case. They're not going to get

14 prepared. They're not going to do any research.

15 They're not going to talk to any witnesses. They

16 are going to -- they would not do any work

17 whatsoever. They would simply be standby and, as

18 you said, the middle of trial you decide you need

19 some help, it's probably going to be way too late

20 by then and, again, they'll be there, but they're

21 not going to have prepared anything. That's what

22 standby counsel is.

23 THE DEFENDANT: My question would be, would it

24 be one of these two counselors?

hr 25 THE COURT: Yes, sir, because I've already
