Language Objectives:
Students will be able to explain corresponding types of residual plots to lines of best fit.
Students will be able to justify chosen lines of best fit.
Students will be able to communicate with a group and explain their findings in presentation
form.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students will recall information previously discussed in class involving the equation of line of
best fit, what is a residual, and types of residual plots. Students may also recall information seen
in the video, “Residual Plots” via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VamMrPZ-8fc. (These are
parts one, two, and three from the statistics lesson plan.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teacher: Choose your variables and create a line of best fit. Then, create a new attribute
for residuals. Finally, create a residual plot. Afterwards, determine if the line chosen was
best fit. Be prepared to share with the class. (The teacher will monitor progress during
investigation.)
Students will work together utilizing previously learned information to create residual plots in
CODAP using “YouTube Videos 2017” via
https://codap.concord.org/releases/latest/static/dg/en/cert/index.html?url=https://concord-
consortium.github.io/codap-data/SampleDocs/Other/YouTube/YouTube.codap.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students will share their findings and compare it to the types of residual plots seen/discussed
(part three of the statistics lesson plan) prior to the investigation.
