- I understand that the school has recently decided to put restrictions on Chromebook usage for
various reasons so I have came up with a fun way to incorporate technology without using
technology!
Introduction - For our next mini regions project, we will be creating iRegions! I know you are all well versed in
(2 minutes) what makes up a region and this project goes hand in hand with your regions mnemonic. Let’s
have a brain break and practice the region song one more time!
- *students perform regions song*
Introduction to iRegion and Expectations:
- Teacher Actions
- For this project, I will provide everyone with the materials to make their very own iPad. But this
isn’t any iPad, this is an iPad that contains 9 apps with all you need to know about your region.
- I want everyone to think of a region they have yet to explore, so not one of the regions you have
researched for your infographic, your Google Earth project, or your postcard.
- I will show students my exemplar that I created on Kelowna. I chose Kelowna because my family
lives there and I am familiar with the area.
- The iPad will have 9 apps just like mine. These apps will include:
- 2 landform apps: What geographical features makes your region unique?
- 2 resource apps: What resources does your region have to offer?
- 1 climate app: use this app to explain the climate of your region: Is your region dry? Humid?
Hot? Cold? Rainy? How does it’s climate compare to Lethbridge?
Body - 1 recreation app: What do the people of your region do for fun? Try to make this specific to the
(7 minutes) region. Remember, you can go to a mall in any region.
- 1 job app: What is a common job in your region?
- 1 transportation OR clothing OR housing app: use this app to explain your choice. What kind of
clothing do people in your region wear? Do they have a specific type of housing? How do they
get around? Dog sled? Boat?
- 1 First Nations fact: This fact can be present day or historical. Look in your textbook for
information on how your region has impacted the lives of indigenous people. Ex. Atlantic region:
How did the governor of Nova Scotia impact the Mik’maq people? Perhaps you could explain
their concerns and draw the letter they wrote to the governor.

Students will have the “Design your iRegion” steps available to them on whiteboard.

I expect everyone to have their research done this period. By the end of this class, I expect
everyone to have started writing their explanations.
Research your iRegion
- Teacher Actions

textbook. Use the table of contents to locate your chosen region in the textbook.
-you are welcome to research your region at home
-I will put up a link on the smartboard to a website with key information about the regions. You are
welcome to use it if you can provide me evidence of research from your textbook.
