Electronic connection between the epoxy-coated reinforcement bar s and uncoated

reinforcement bars sha ll not be allowed.
6. 2. 7 Wheel-shaped concrete cushion blocks should be used in the reinforcement cover and the strength
grade of cushion blocks shall not be lower than those of pile shaft concrete. The longitudina l spaceing
between concrete wheel-shaped cushion blocks should not be more than 2 m. The num ber of cushion
blocks in transverse direction should not be less t han 4 and should be set in quincunx shape.
6. 2. 8 When the completed reinforcement cages are s tored, pads should be set at inter vals of 2 m to
support reinforcement cages off the ground by not less than 5 cm, and rain cloths sha ll be used t o cover
the cages.

6. 3 Installation of Reinforcement Cage

6. 3. 1 Reinforcement cages of average length may be transported to the construction site by special
transportation trucks. Reinforcement cages for long and large bored piles shall be equipped with special
brackets during tran sportation and sha ll be transported to the site by flat trucks.
6. 3. 2 Measures shall be taken during transportation to prevent reinforcement cages from severe destortion.
6. 3. 3 All preparations shall be well made before the installation of reinforcement cages to shorten
t he insta llation time.
6. 3. 4 Proper arrangements should be made to keep the stored cages free from contamina tion with
mud or other deleterious materials.
6. 3. 5 Suitable lifting equipment shall be selected considering the length, the weight of the cage and
jobs ite lifti ng conditions of each reinforcement cage when lift ing opera tion is in progress.
6. 3. 6 S ufficient measures shall be taken to ensure the reinforcement cage free of distortion from the
lifting operation. After installa tion, the reinforcement cage shall be kept upright.
6. 3. 7 T he connection between segments of epoxy-coated reinforcement cage sha ll comply with t he
design requirements. Collision damage caused by falling objects shall be avoided at the time of
ins ta lling the epoxy-coated reinforcement cages. Connector coatings s hall be checked after the segment
connection of epoxy-coated reinforcement cages. A timely fix- up sha ll be made if any damage
happens. R einforcement cages may be put down after the solidification of the patching ma terials.
6. 3. 8 When the reinforcement cages are installed in place , reliable positioning measures shall be
taken if no thing wrong happens after check, so as to prevent the frameworks of reinforcement from
floating upward or downward during concreting.

6. 4 Installation of Sonic Pipe

6. 4. 1 Ul trasonic transmission method sha ll be adopted to test foundation piles if pile diameter are
larger than or equal to 2 m, pi le leng ths ar e more than 40 m or fo undat ion piles ar e under complicated
geological conditions.
6. 4. 2 Embedment of sonic pipes shall comply with the design requirements. If there is no
requirements , it sha ll comply wi th the following provisions :
1 Not less than 2 pipes shall be embedded when pile sha ft diameter D~O. 8 m. Not less than
3 pipes shall be embedded w hen 0. 8 m<~2. 0 m. Not less than 4 pipes shall be embedded when D >
2. 0 m.
2 Sonic pipes s hall be metal tubes, w hose inner diameter shall not be less than 40 mm an d wall
thickness not be less than 3. 0 mm.
• 22 •
3 A locating ring for sonic pipe shall be welded every other reinforcement locating rack and the
diameter of locating ring shall be larger than the outer diameter of sonic pipe by 10 mrn. Sonic pipe
shall be connected by s leeve pipe.
4 Sonic pipes installed in each segment of reinforcement cages shall correspond with each other.
Identification shall be made on the correspondi ng connectors of adj acent segments.
5 Lower ends of the sonic pipe sha ll be closed and upper ends capped. )Jo foreign materials shall
be kept in the pipes. T he joints s hould be smooth and watertight. P ipe mouths shall be higher than the
pile heads by 100 mm and each pipe mo uth should be in the same height.
6 Started from the beginning of the long kilometerage di rection of the route , the sonic pipes shall
be numbered and dist ributed symmetrically in clockwise direction , the diagrammatic sketch for
distribution of sonic pipes is shown in Figure 6. 4. 2.
