Horticulture is a commodity that has a very bright future in view of the advantages in

the future recovery of the Indonesian economy, besides horticulture consists of fruits,
vegetables, ornamental plants, and medicinal plants have a great potential to be developed as
agribusiness. Melon is one of the fruits that have a comparative advantage, that is short-lived
and expensive selling price is also a reason for farmers to work on commodities agribusiness
this intensively. The entire attraction brings melon as excellent of agribusiness commodity.
But in the process production of melon has risk. Risk production of melon can be caused by
several factors. There is a risk of production results of uncertainty raises profits melon to be
retrieved. So it's important to do starting from recognizing the risk that appears to set up the
control of risks in agribusiness melon.
The aim of this job training is to study and get work experience in risk of agribusiness
melon and risk management practices in UPT Pengembangan Agribisnis Tanaman Pangan
and Hortikultura (PATPH) Sidoarjo, East Java. This activity began on July 9, 2012 until
October 2, 2012. The method which is used in the implementation of job training is direct
labor practice, with primary data collection i.e,. discussion and direct interviews, and
secondary data collection.
The results of internship activities that have been done include:
1. There are some risks in agribusiness melon in UPT PATPH i.e., damage of the
product (melon) that affected by human error start from maintenance until post-
harvest handling. The second risk i.e., that fluctuations the result are influenced by
rainfall, pests and plant diseases, and the intensity of sunlight. Then the third is a
consignment risk which is the risk in the market. Then the risk could happen is when
a certification checks that done once a year if the certificate of melon can not be
renewed, it will effect on the main income PATPH UPT.
2. In risk management, the UPT PATPH already used two of mitigation and prevention
strategy like using Green House and a net on the OPC (Open Space) to stabilize the
temperature, use healthy seed, using pesticides but still accordance with the SOP and
GAP, exercised under supervision when maintenance, more thoroughly and carefully
during maintenance until post-harvest handling, and if rejected by the supermarket
fruit that can be sold in stores or to middlemen

This research was conducted in Srigading Orchids, East Java Malang. Method of
collection data used in this research is data primary and secondary. Data primary obtained by
observation and interview with someone in the company who can know risk happens in
companies and the cause and knowing how process of handling risk areas that company did.
Secondary data obtained from the documentation Srigading Orchids the general state
companies that include a land area Data, costs spent during the production process, the
number of manufactured products, the selling price of orchids, production of reports each
period and other data needed for risk analysis Moreover, secondary data used are literature
and relevant agencies such as the BPS, Departemen Pertanian, Brawijaya University library,
internet and other relevant literature. While the method of analysis used is descriptive method
to identify the sources of risk, the z-score analysis methods are used to analyze the
probability of risk, and the Value at Risk (VaR) to analyze the effects because of the
occurrence risk.
Results of research that have been done, (1) There are four sources of risk occurring
from production to sales. Risk of the production process is the mortality orchid, which is
caused by three sources that are weather conditions, plant pests, Contamination of tools and
breaking of buildings. Besides the risk of the production process, the risks that occur in
Srigading Orchids are the risks during the sales process. Risks during the sales process that
has been identified is the orchid that is not sold. This is presumably because by the decrease
demand in Srigading Orchids orchids because of lifestyle changes, people's tastes change and
the promotion of less than maximum. (2) Based on analysis of probability of risk by using a z-
score analysis sources of contamination risk of damage to buildings and equipment is a source of risk
that has the highest probability of 35.2 percent. After Contamination of tools and breaking of
buildings, probabiltas source of risk probability that the second highest risk of unsold orchid that is
equal to 29.5 percent. Then in the third after orchids unsold, sources of risk with probablitas rate of
23.6 percent occurred on the source of risk weather conditions. And the last is the smallest
probability of pests and diseases that have a probability of 18.9 percent. (3) Based on the Value at
Risk, the bigggest impact of the four sources of risk is Contamination of tools and breaking of
buildings that gives the impact of Rp 10,205,873. Another source of risk is the second biggest impact
of pests and diseases that have an impact amounting to Rp 6,475,940. The third source of risk that
impacts the risk of Rp 3,373,726 is derived from the sale. And the source of most small risk impact is
the impact of weather conditions amounting to Rp 2,724,076. (4) Based on the results from
themapping sources risk in Sigading Orchids are the contamination of tools and breaking of buildings
can be resolved by preventive and mitigation strategies While the source of the risk of unsold
orchids only use preventive strategies. And the last source of pest and disease risks only using
mitigation strategy.

Indonesia's agriculture sector that has become a part in the development of the national
economy. One of the agriculture sector which is becoming the center of attention is the
horticultural sector. Ornamental plant which is one of horticultural commodities have good
prospects because the average production of ornamental plants each year shows increased of
production, harvest and productivity that area of 15,47%, 3,65% and 39,87 % in 2011
(Deptan, 2011). Orchid plant is one of the exclusive ornamental plants from many types of
ornamental plants. Although the price is expensive orchids never lost interest. Orchid plant
takes a long time starting from seeding until the plants begin flowering that is more or less
two years, so it takes special care as well as production of proper risk management in order to
produce a quality product and profitable. Because the risk of orchid production uncertainty on
the benefits to be gained, so it is important to do risk management.
This researches has four objectives: first, to identify the sources of risk to the Orchid,
the second analyze probability the risk agribusiness orchids, the third to analyze impacts
generated and and the fourth is identifying orchids agribusiness risk management applied to
solve the sources risks.
