Drastic Development: Climate Change

Watching the two clips about climate change made me realize more that we people must
take care of what we have, especially our home, the planet which had the ability to grow and is
capable of giving everything in existence, the one and only Earth. Earth’s nature is the precious
gift that God has given us, so in return, we must take good care of it and not ignoring its climate
crisis. In the past few decades, rising temperature have worsened extreme weather events, chunks
of ice in the Antarctic have broken apart, wildfire seasons are months longer, coral reefs have been
bleached of their color, mosquitoes are expanding their territory, able to spread disease.

Based on the two clips, the global warming and climate change is the result of the gradual
increase of greenhouse gases in the ozone layer, thus trapping the sun’s heat in the Earth’s
atmosphere. These greenhouse gases result from human activities like fossil fuel burning,
deforestation and massive construction of buildings and factories. By this, we can see the result of
it like the melting of the glaciers, extreme weather events, extinction of species and changes of
nature. Upon seeing this, it turned out to be a wake-up call for me. It made me cautious about this
topic, making me anxious for instant help to our Earth. For me, it is the hardest problem for us
because it signifies all the living things are in danger. Drastic development, since through the years,
human have made many changes in the environment, they have cut down the trees and planted
crops in their place. The fast growing countries has something to do with the environment. The
more people dwell in a certain area, the more houses and buildings are needed to be and salt beds
into both residential and commercial buildings and areas. And because of the globalization being
made, more industrial plants we being built. Industrial plants fill the air with smoke and dangerous
chemicals, pollute the lakes and streams with waste and toxic by-products and wear out or damage
parts of the surrounding land. In short, human inventions brought about progress, but destroyed
the natural environment.

Nowadays, a lot of people lacks education on how to care about the environment. Though
even they know that they cause harm to the environment they still continue their doing for the
reason that they want development, they want money. Even though development is not a bad thing
what the development does to the environment contributes to the causes of climate change. As a
social work student, as a student judge of the university, I will help the environment to prevent the
ongoing process of climate change through patronizing to the no-plastic awareness, by using
reusable materials and bringing always with me my water bottle. Other than that, helping to spread
the word to the majority. Climate change is a serious problem that needs to be addressed, the rich
countries needs to realize that there are poor countries that suffers from their development, instead
of using massive electricity and fossil fuels, why not change the course to the use of solar powers.

Reflecting to myself, sometimes or even most of the times, we, human, forget about our
actions which causes harm to our natural environment. Everything is not yet too late. We can still
have the chance to solve this climate crisis such as planting more trees, use less electricity, use
water properly, walk instead of using cars or motorcycle especially if your destination is just a
walking distance and most importantly support any environmental programs and solutions.
