TEXES Competency PPR (EC-12)

Competency 001:

The teacher understands human development processes and applies this knowledge to plan instruction
and ongoing assessment that motivate students and are responsive to their developmental
characteristics and needs.

Summary- Teachers understands the human development process and is responsive to it. The teacher
uses knowledge to plan in which it motivates students.

Competency 002:

The teacher understands student diversity and knows how to plan learning experiences and design
assessments that are responsive to differences among students and that promote all students’ learning.

Summary- Teachers understands students background, ethnicity, learning styles, and differences.
Plans accordingly with that in mind for learning and assessments.

Competency 003:

The teacher understands procedures for designing effective and coherent instruction and assessment
based on appropriate learning goals and objectives.

Summary- Teachers understand students’ needs and has different methods to present the material to
a student’s learning goals and objectives.

Competency 004:

The teacher understands learning processes and factors that impact student learning and demonstrates
this knowledge by planning effective, engaging instruction and appropriate assessments.

Summary- The teacher make sure plans are made and instructions are detailed as well as appropriate
assessments are done to the different learning styles of the students.

Competency 005:

The teacher knows how to establish a classroom climate that fosters learning, equity and excellence and
uses this knowledge to create a physical and emotional environment that is safe and productive.

Summary- The teacher knows how to make and awesome and effective learning environment for the
classroom and able to connect physically and emotionally.

Competency 006:

The teacher understands strategies for creating an organized and productive learning environment and
for managing student behavior.

Summary- The teacher has different methods and resources to make the learning environment
productive. As well able to maintain behavior in the classroom at the same time.

Competency 007:
The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for communicating effectively in varied
teaching and learning contexts.

Summary- Teacher has different methods to communicate correctly and effectively when teaching.

Competency 008:

The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages students in the learning process.

Summary- Teacher gives instructions accordingly and gets students involved to be able to teach and
have the students understand.

Competency 009:

The teacher incorporates the effective use of technology to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate
instruction for all students.

Summary- The teacher uses available technology with all students to plan, organize and evaluate
instructions.

Competency 010:

The teacher monitors student performance and achievement; provides students with timely, high-
quality feedback; and responds flexibly to promote learning for all students.

Summary- The teacher monitors all students in different areas. The teacher is able to maintain
learning for each and every student and provides them with correct feedback effectively.

Competency 011:

The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in children’s education and knows how
to interact and communicate effectively with families.

Summary- The teacher is efficient in keeping the family up to date and involved with each child and
their education. The teacher knows that it is very important to the child and family.

Competency 012:

The teacher enhances professional knowledge and skills by effectively interacting with other members
of the educational community and participating in various types of professional activities.

Summary- Teacher interacts with other teachers, community involvement, extracurricular activity
involvement to increase the knowledge and professional development of one’s self.

Competency 013:

The teacher understands and adheres to legal and ethical requirements for educators and is
knowledgeable of the structure of education in Texas.

Summary- The teacher understands and obeys the rules and requirements for educators in Texas and
does as required.
