I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Immersion of students in the industry forms part of their experiential

learning while in school. This typically involves intensive academic instruction

and exposure to complex socio-cultural issues, often taking students from their

active participation from theoretical school activity to critically examine their

own pre-conceived notions. Bowman, Brandenberger, Mick, and Smedley

(2010) conducted one of the few quantitative studies using questionnaires to

show that well-structured immersion experiences can positively influence senior

high school student’s attitudes and understanding of actual work, even

suggested that immersion can be as effective, impactful, than traditional

semester-long classes.

As stipulated in DO No.30 s.2017, “Guidelines for Work Immersion” and DO

No. 39, s.2018, “Clarification and Additional Information to DepEd Order

No.30,s.2017”, a Work Immersion is a requirement for graduation and should

provide SHS learners with opportunities to become familiar with the workplace,

simulate employment, and to apply their competencies in areas of

specialization/applied subjects in actual work environments, DepEd recognizes

other options that may equally prepare learners for all curriculum exits.

Work Immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum and

specifically refers to the 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation

which Grade 12 students will undergo to expose them to the actual work setting

and to enrich the competencies provided by the school. With the four exits
envisioned for SHS graduates – namely, higher education, entrepreneurship,

employment or middle-level skills development. Work Immersion is a key subject

within the SHS curriculum that is conducted in different ways and time frame as

needed by the SHS learners. The subject provides learners with opportunities to

become familiar with the workplace; for employment simulation, and to apply

their competencies in the areas of specialization/applied subjects in authentic

work environments. The said learning experience that the students can be

acquired will surely enable and help students as they familiarize themselves with

the workplace simulation and apply their competencies in their particular areas.

The completion of Work Immersion is a pre-requisite to graduation under the K-12

program.

II. INNOVATION, INTERVENTION OR STRATEGY

The main purpose of this study is to evaluate work performance of the

students. In this regard, the researcher will construct instrument connected with

the main objective. It will contain three parts. First, is to seek information about

the traits of the students. This will be made by listing all possible traits of the

respondents. Second, is to determine the immersion procedure in every school

and the improvement of work performance of the students which include

statements of the immersion procedure and work performances. Third, is to

determine the level of performance of the students. Before the researcher gives

the instrument to the respondents, the researcher will make a cover letter
addressed to the head of school and its immersion focal person and teachers to

assist the researcher in the distribution of the instrument.

In order to gather the data, the researcher will submit a letter of request to

the Schools Division Office addressed to the Superintendent. Upon approval, the

copy of the letter will be submitted to the School Head where the research will

be conducted. The questionnaires will be distributed to the respondents to

answer the research problem statement and retrieved afterwards to be tallied,

tabulated and processed for further recommendation.

III. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The purpose of this study is to evaluate and assess the work immersion

performance of Grade 12 students in TVL Strand in Olongapo City.

Specifically, this study answers the following questions:

1.What qualifications do respondents possess prior to work immersion?

2.What type of industries do respondents choose for work immersion?

3.How do respondents describe the work immersion program in terms of :

3.1 work immersion procedure;

3.4 work immersion outputs.

4.How is the work immersion performance of the respondents be described?

5.What problems do respondents encounter in the work immersion program?

6.What improvement plan may be created to enhanced Work Immersion

Program?

IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHOD

A quantitative survey type of research will be utilized in this study. To

acquire information and data, the survey questionnaire will be made to

generate information from the effectiveness of immersion of the students from

their different works or tasks and practices according to their chosen track.

Afterwards, the descriptive statistics will be used in analyzing and interpreting

the data.

The sampling method to be used in this study will be purposive sampling

because it will cover all the students who have characteristics needed in the

study. Therefore, the students who have work immersion program are all

included in the study.
