Choosing the Right Filter

Choosing the Ideal Filters for Your System

Doesn’t Need to be Complicated
Just remember a few key principles:
Fluid viscosity is crucial in the selection of the most appropriate filter
combination for your site without impacting flow rates.
(see page 15 for viscosity data).

Establish the target ISO 4406 cleanliness code for your equipment.

Single Pass Filtration

Designed for Systems of any Size,

with Minimal Pressure Drop
Donaldson Clean Fuel and Lubricant Solutions assemblies are
manufactured and plumbed in parallel flow configurations reducing
pressure drop across the assembly, providing single-pass filtration
performance, and targeted fluid cleanliness.

Mixing of part number elements on any dual head or manifold assembly will

The Donaldson T.R.A.P.™1 breather reduces the risk of dust and
moisture entering storage tanks through the vent while allowing high

This kit uses two high performance filters, in
series, to clean your diesel fuel ready for use.
Industrial, agricultural, mining,

The first filter removes particulate contamination from diesel. Rated at
<4um@b2000 (99.95% single pass), it is designed to target a cleanliness
of ISO 14/13/11 in a single pass. The second filter uses a super absorbent
polymer (SAP) that will not allow free water to pass. This combination
OPTIONAL TRAP BREATHERS
of filters will ensure that your diesel is both clean and dry, for maximum
performance.
FOR MOBILE TANKS:
For complete protection, Donaldson recommends installing a TRAP breather
to keep air-borne contamination and moisture from entering your tank. Select

Temperature and Viscosity

The Importance of Temperature

in Sizing Your Filtration System
Fluid viscosity, measured in centiStokes (cSt) or Saybolt Seconds Universal (SSU or SUS), is the resistance
of a fluid to flow (thickness of fluid). Low viscosity fluids pass through filters with less resistance than high
viscosity fluids. Higher fluid viscosities have higher pressure drops due to higher resistance passing through
the media.

Cold fluids have higher viscosities, resulting in higher initial restrictions. Cold ambient temperatures will
reduce fluid flow and are a critical consideration when sizing any bulk liquid installation.
