1. Why are you doing this project?

According to a report by TRIBUNE around 1 million toilets have been
constructed in India, but still there has been only a slight decrease in the
percentage that defecate in open. So, the main aim of this project is to find out
where the problem lies. Is it the lack of sanitation ethics or a cultural set-back,
whether the absence of proper arrangement or lack of general awareness? With
India being in the developing phase it is time to treat the lack of toilets as a
serious problem and take its future implications into considerations.

2.Why is this important now?

The problem throws light on both the political as well as the cultural
aspect. According to the HINDU.com India’s sanitation campaign has cost 40
times Mars mission budget. Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day
speech, ‘has it ever pained us that our mothers and sisters have to defecate in
open in the 21st century’. It is a serious issue and it is the need of the hour to
find the root cause. If according to the government stats sufficient amount is
being provided by the Government to construct toilets, yet there is only a slight
increase in the sanitation of the people, there has to be some loop, somewhere
that is still un-noticed.

3.How will you collect data?

In this project we are going to take reference from the stats and the data
provided by the government authorities. A report by swatchhindia.ndtv.com
elaborates on the number of toilets built in India, in past three years.
So, our survey shall be concerned with the households, to bring out their point
of view as we can’t blindly blame government without seeing the other side of
the story. Our centre of focus shall be the people of DADRI. Accordingly, a
questionnaire shall be prepared:

- Kya apke ghar mein toilet/shochalaya hein?

- Toilet na hone ki vajah se apko kya mushkile hoti hein?
- Kya ghar ke pas koi toilet hein?
- Kya Dadri KE NAGAR NIGAM ne ap logon se is bare mein bat ki?

4. Possible implications
Human resource management is applicable everywhere:
 First if we see it from stakeholder’s point of view-In this case both the
government and the citizens (people who are directly affected) are
involved. The problem is having its affect both on the Government as
well the people.

 Secondly if we throw light on the situational factors-One of the factors

being law and social values. In this project the social value of the
people is the centre of focus, as it can be one of the root cause of the
problem.

 Thirdly LONG-TERM CONSEQUENCES-In Harvard Framework

long term consequences are defined as individual well-being,
organizational effectiveness and societal well-being.
1.Toilets are a necessity of life and a must for every individual (individual well-being.
2.Government on its part is providing what promised, but the results are not as productivity
(organisational effectiveness)
3.There may be a resentment on the part of the society-a cultural setback or their old mind set thus
affecting their development.(societal well-being).
