The purpose of this document is to provide Gallagher Security Management Systems dealers,
partners and end users with an overview of all major new features and products to be released to
coincide with Version 5.20, due for release April 2nd, 2008.
Please note this document is not intended to be the single source of information regarding
Version 5.20, but rather a guide to the improvements and additions.
Supporting Documentation
The documents listed in this section have all been updated or created to support Cardax FT
Command Centre Version 5.20.
Product List
A new issue of the Cardax Product List is to be released to coincide with Version 5.20.
User Guide
Command Centre User Guide. An updated version of the user guide will be issued with every
new purchase, and every version upgrade to Version 5.20.
Release Notes
Command Centre release note has been updated, review this prior to installation or upgrade of
new and existing sites.
This section provides an overview of information that must be understood when considering
Cardax FT Command Centre Version 5.20
All sites upgrading to Command Centre Version 5.20 will require an upgraded Command Centre
License file.
To obtain an updated License file, either a Command Centre Software Upgrade or a Software
Maintenance Agreement must be purchased. Refer to the Cardax Product List for information
regarding Software Maintenance Agreements and Upgrades.
Several new features in Version 5.20 may impact on the configuration of sites upgrading from
pre-Cardax Version 5.20 systems. Refer to the Command Centre Version 5.20 New Features /
Enhancements Release Note for full details on the impact of these features.
This version of Cardax FT Command Centre is compatible with version vBT5.20//b22 of Cardax
FT Controller. It is also compatible with previous versions of Controller code for upgrade
purposes only. No configuration change should be done on pre-version vBT5.20 Controllers
once Command Centre has been upgraded.
Important Note
There are no software controls in place to check Controller versions during Peer-to-Peer
communication, a site will simply get unpredictable behavior.
It is recommended that sites upgrading from a version prior to 5.20 upgrade all Controllers as
soon as is practical for the site.
Please note:
• Support for Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and 2000 Professional Operating Systems will be
discontinued from the next major release of Cardax FT Command Centre. This policy is in
line with Microsoft’s discontinuation of support for these legacy Operating Systems.
• Cardax FT Command Centre installation is not supported on a Windows Domain Controller
PC
• 64 Bit operating systems are not currently supported
Please note:
The following upgrade paths to Command Centre Version 5.20 have been fully tested and
supported:-
Version 4.20.xx to Version 5.20
Version 5.01.xx to Version 5.20
Version 5.02.xx to Version 5.20
Version 5.10.xx to Version 5.20
Please note that new version availability of the Cardax legacy CCNT and CCUNIX sytems has
now ceased. Cardax will continue to support installed instances of both of these systems until the
end of the 2009 calendar year. An easy migration path from CCNT and CCUNIX to Command
Centre is available from Cardax; please contact your regional Cardax Business Development
Manager for more details.
The following section identifies feature enhancements included in Cardax FT Command Centre
Version 5.20. This information should be complimented by the Cardax FT Command Centre
User Guide released with Version 5.20, or preferably a Cardax FT training course.
Cardax FT Command Centre Workstations now support the latest Microsoft operating
system, MS Windows Vista – Business and Enterprise Editions.
In keeping with supporting the latest technology advances, Command Centre now supports the
latest operating system from Microsoft, Windows Vista. Command Centre v5.20 Workstations
have been tested against both the Vista Business, and Vista Enterprise Editions.
Customers installing Command Centre on Microsoft Vista Business or Enterprise Editions are
strongly recommended to ensure that Microsoft Vista Service Pack 1 is installed prior to running
Command Centre on the new operating system.

Command Centre Software Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
In Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20, the default installed database option has been
upgraded to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
Prior to Command Centre v5.20, the default database provided with Command Centre has been
MSDE. In line with Microsoft’s policy to move support from MSDE to SQL Server Express,
Command Centre now supports SQL Server 2005 Express, in addition to SQL Server 2000 and
2005 support.
New installations of Command Centre will be offered SQL Server 2005 Express as the default
database option during the installation process. Existing Command Centre installations using
MSDE will be provided a free upgrade path from MSDE to SQL Server 2005 Express from

Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20 contains many enhanced Site Plan features, increasing
both the usability and functionality of Cardax FT Site Plans.
Previously in Cardax FT Command Centre, FT items could only be represented on site plans via
the standard item icon, with only the default action for the item available when double clicked.
Command Centre v5.20 greatly expands the functionality and usability of site plans by providing
more options for displaying FT items on site plans, providing status information about these items,
and defining the default actions relating to clicking on these items.

Command Centre Software Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20 now allows full biometric verification, enabling highly
secure access control using a combination of smartcard, finger and PIN presentation.
Architecture
The Cardax FT – SAGEM Fingerprint Reader Verification integration incorporates the following
architecture:
FT
Command
Card Fingerprint
Mifare Encoding Enrolment SAGEM
Encoder MSO 3xx
USB USB
Wiegand Wiegand
A user’s fingerprint is first enrolled, then encoded on a Mifare smartcard, all via the Cardax FT
Command Centre user interface within 1-2 minutes. The user can immediately present the card
at a SAGEM fingerprint reader, which depending on the access method implemented will request
a card, and/or fingerprint, and/or PIN. Once the user is correctly authenticated, the Cardax
Controller decides whether or not the user may enter an area. The reader settings and optional
reader monitoring are configured centrally from the Cardax FT Command Centre user interface
and communicated with the readers via Ethernet.
Licensing
This is a licensed feature, requiring the following licensing:
• Sagem readers purchased from GSMS each come with a Sagem Reader Integration License
(part# 2A8951) at no additional cost, which is updated on the site license, allowing the site to
create each Sagem reader in Command Centre. SAGEM readers purchased elsewhere are
required to purchase this license for each reader.
• The Command Centre Server, and each FT Workstation used to enrol fingerprints, must have
a Sagem ‘MACI license/Verif Dongle’ pair (part# C864401) to enable fingerprint enrolment
and template management. Only one pair is required if enrolment occurs on the same
machine as the Command Centre Server.
In Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20, a major upgrade has been made to Wizards,
enabling simpler and quicker configuration of Cardax FT hardware for installers, and
potential cost savings for end users.
Configuration wizards aim to simplify hardware and software installation for new installers, and
allow quicker site configuration for existing installers. Prior to Command Centre v5.20, the
Quickstart Wizard only covered a portion of Cardax FT hardware, and offered limited functionality
for improving the speed of installations. The Command Centre v5.20 Configuration Wizard now
covers the majority of Cardax FT hardware, and provides significant advancements for both new
and existing Cardax installers.
Each individual hardware wizard has now been re-ordered, with information that is unique for
most new hardware items in the first wizard pages. The wizard now allow an installer to click
‘Finish’ once all mandatory unique hardware information has been completed, saving default
values for the hardware. In this manner, a new Controller or GBUS device with all connections
can be now be created within two wizard pages.
Licensing
This is a standard feature, included as tangible value to customers purchasing a Cardax FT
Command Centre Software Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
Wiring reports are now available in Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20, to help installers
physically connect devices in accordance with the Command Centre head-end
configuration.
Wiring reports for most Cardax FT hardware devices, doors and lift cars can now be created,
providing physical installers clear and easy guidance for wiring Cardax FT installations. In
addition to wiring configuration, the report also provides the physical installer with useful
information for the device such as network addresses, whether tampers are enabled on a device,
what type of lock is configured for a door, and what end-of-line resistors are configured for the
device.
Licensing
This is a standard feature, included as tangible value to customers purchasing a Cardax FT
Command Centre Software Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
Operators can now log on and off of Cardax FT Command Centre via their Cardax Mifare
smartcard.
Command Centre workstations can now be configured to allow operators to use their Cardax
Mifare smartcard to log on or off Command Centre. When enabled, the Smart Card Logon
feature can allow an operator to place their Mifare smartcard on a Cardax Mifare Encoder Unit
(part# C41006) which is connected to the workstation via a USB cable. On correct validation of
the operator’s card, the operator is logged on to FT Command Centre. Operators can optionally
be required to also enter their log on password.
Once an operator has finished their session on Command Centre and removed their Cardax
Mifare smartcard, a preset card removal time counts down before the operator is logged off. A
warning time can also be displayed before log off, to ensure that the operator has intentionally
removed their card from the Encoder Unit. In addition, exiting the Command Centre application
on the workstation can now be disabled, ensuring that the Command Centre log on screen is
always available when an operator has logged off.
Licensing
This is a standard feature, included as tangible value to customers purchasing a Cardax FT
Command Centre Software Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20 now supports the use of multiple monitors to display
the Command Centre user interface screens.
Operators can now make full use of multiple window displays with Command Centre v5.20.
Command Centre windows can now be dragged to display in separate screens, or display across
multiple screens, depending on the workstation’s Windows display settings. Operator
preferences for all window positions are saved, allowing consistent operator views over multiple
monitors.
Licensing
This is a standard feature, included as tangible value to customers purchasing a Cardax Software
Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
In Command Centre 5.20 it is possible to use an External System Item as a reader on a door,
elevator car or Remote Arming Terminal, and pass through card read events from an external
system. External System Items set up in this manner are included in reader search results, and
generate card events according to normal event generation rules. Access granted/denied
feedback is provided by the FT Controller back to the External System via the FT Controller API.
Licensing
This is a standard feature, included as tangible value to customers purchasing a Cardax FT
Command Centre Software Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
Macros in Command Centre can contain commands which have a large impact on a site. The
consequences of unintentionally running such a macro (such as accidentally selecting a single
touch macro on a touch screen site plan, or the operator misinterpreting the macro description)
could be significant.
Command Centre v5.20 now allows an optional operator dialogue to be displayed when a manual
macro override is run, which requires operator confirmation before the macro is enacted. The
confirmation text on the dialogue box is configurable, allowing a site to fully describe how the
macro will function to the operator.
Licensing
This is a standard feature, included as tangible value to customers purchasing a Cardax FT
Command Centre Software Maintenance Agreement or Software Upgrade.
Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20 now supports card printing and encoding with the
Fargo HDP5000 card printer & encoder.
Both individual and batch card printing and encoding with the Fargo HDP5000 Card Printer &
Encoder are now supported in Command Centre v5.20.
Licensing
Support for the Fargo HDP5000 Card Printer and Encoder is included in the chargeable Photo ID
Card Printing & Encoding optional feature license (part# 2A8071).
Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20 now supports interfaces with a range of third party
security products, via FT Controller API middleware. All FT Controller API interfaces are
individually licensed optional features, and are supported for the specific version of 3rd
party software listed.
SNMP v1 Interface
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a protocol used in network management
systems to monitor network-attached devices for conditions that warrant administrative attention.
The Cardax FT Controller API – SNMP v1 Interface allows Command Centre to listen for SNMP
traps from any SNMP Agent (for example, alerts from the FT Server hardware, or UPS devices).
These SNMP messages are converted into events/alarms at the FT Controller for alarms
management and audit purposes.
Many external systems are capable of receiving ASCII text commands to trigger actions in their
system, or notify them of external events. Common systems using this type of interface are
Matrix Switches, DVR Systems, Paging Systems etc... The Cardax FT Controller API allows the
FT Controller to send out ASCII text strings in response to FT events to a third party system, such
as those above.
Security Escort is a wireless help-call system, produced by Bosch Security Systems, that allows a
user to signal the need for help in the event of an emergency. The systems consists of a network
of transmitters, receivers and transponders linked to a central computer designed to provide a
means of alerting security personnel to potential personal safety problems. The Cardax FT
Controller API Security Escort Interface allows these alarms, including the user’s or asset’s name,
description and current location, to be raised within Command Centre. These alarms can then be
responded to via FT alarms management, displayed in an appropriate location on an FT site plan,
and recorded in the FT database.
Senstar-Stellar, from Magal Group, provides a range of perimeter control and detection systems.
Senstar 100 is an alarm management system which displays, records and controls Senstar-
Stellar’s outdoor perimeter security sensors. The Cardax FT Controller API - Senstar 100
Interface’s primary purpose is to is to transfer sensor, tamper and fail alarms from the Senstar-
Stellar system to Cardax FT. Theses alarms are then added to the Cardax FT alarm stack and
processed the same as a Cardax FT-originated alarm.
The CIC KeySecure system is a software package for controlling user access to keys contained
within CIC C.Q.R.iT Key Cabinets. The FT Controller API - CIC KeySecure Interface allows
Cardax FT to be integrated with the KeySecure system, so that cardholders are prevented from
exiting through a Cardax FT controlled door until all keys have been returned.
The interface allows the KeySecure system to generate external card events which are used in
combination with anti-passback in Cardax FT to control user exit. The interface also reports all
key in and out events (irrespective of whether they are to be used for anti-passback purposes), as
well as errors encountered for alarms management and audit purposes.
The FT Controller DigiOp DVR Interface allows installers to configure Cardax FT Command
Centre to automatically send commands to a DigiOP DVR in response to events, and to receive
and process events from the DigiOp DVR system.
Cardax FT Command Centre v5.20 now supports the new GBUS URI – Wiegand Variant, a
variant of the standard GBUS URI capable of supporting 2 x Wiegand readers.
Following on from the successful introduction of the GBUS Universal Reader Interface, Cardax
has developed a new variant specifically for use with Wiegand readers, the GBUS URI – Wiegand
variant (part# C200665). This variant can accommodate 2 x Wiegand readers, ideal for site
retrofits where existing Wiegand readers are to be reused.
