NARRATIVE REPORT ON NATIONAL READING MONTH CELEBRATION

I. Introduction

In accordance with Deped Order No. 121, S 2014 , Reading month celebration
was also conducted in Jaguimitan Elementary School with this years theme “
Magbasa’t Umunlad”. It’s purpose is to promote Every Child a Reader Program
making every Filipino child a competent reader and writer appropriate for
his/her grade level.

II. Objectives:
1. To develop the ability to read.
2. To help the child to use reading as tool of learning.
3. To develop the desire to read as voluntary activity with the refinement
of taste in reading as an end.
4. Increase the level of motivation of pupils to engage in reading stories.

III. Activities/ Strategies

a. Spelling
All grade level except for kindergarten administered spelling quiz suitable for
every pupil. It was done through elimination where words given was
categorized in easy, average and difficult. Pupils had so much fun and was
participative motivated by the rewards announced by their teachers.
Winners were recognized and personally awarded by their teacher.
b. Nursery Rhyme
This activity was participated by lower grades I, II, III including
kindergarten where they showcased their abilities in memorization and
singing. They were combined and group in four (4) presenting their
selected nursery song with a combination of gestures and action to make
it more entertaining. Everyone indeed enjoyed seeing and listening the
contestants singing their hearts out in order to win.
c. Story Telling
Another reading activity shared by kindergarten, grades I, and II
displaying their skills in storytelling. Considering their young age,
contestants were still able to establish deep interaction among its
listener (audience). With their cute and convincing voices narrating the
story. It has truly created an impact and helped the listeners visualized
the events of the story.
d. Mass Story Reading
It is a joined activity reading done inside the classrooms of every grade
level where pupils read their favourite stories or any reading material
they like.
IV. Problems Met
The school has no internet connection due to its location. Internet
connection is very essential in today’s way of teaching and motivating the
pupils.

V. Suggestions/ Recommendations:
The teacher should have full application of strategies that will
improve pupils’ reading performance. The teacher should be creative and
resourceful enough to cater the needs of the learners. The parents also should help and assist
their child in reading at home.
