Nutrition (also called nourishment or aliment) is the provision, to cells and organisms, of

the materials necessary (in the form of food) to support life

A nutrient is a chemical that an organism needs to live and grow or a substance used in
an organism's metabolism which must be taken in from its environment.[1] Nutrients are
the substances that enrich the body. They are used to build and repair tissues, regulate
body processes and converted to and used as energy.

Food is any substance or materials [1] eaten or drunk to provide nutritional support for the
body or for pleasure. It usually consists of plant or animal origin, that contains
essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is
ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and
maintain life.

NUTRITURE is a bodily condition with respect to nutrition and especially with respect to a
given nutrient (as zinc)

Enzymes are proteins that catalyze (i.e., increase or decrease the rates of)chemical
reactions.[1][2] In enzymatic reactions, the molecules at the beginning of the process are
called substrates, and they are converted into different molecules, called the products.
Almost all processes in a biological cell need enzymes to occur at significant rates.
Since enzymes are selective for their substrates and speed up only a few reactions from
among many possibilities, the set of enzymes made in a cell determines which metabolic
pathways occur in that cell.

Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that happen in living organisms to maintain
life. These processes allow organisms to grow and reproduce, maintain their structures,
and respond to their environments. Metabolism is usually divided into two
categories. Catabolism breaks down organic matter, for example to harvest energy
in cellular respiration. Anabolism uses energy to construct components of cells such
as proteins and nucleic acids.

energy (from Greek ἐνέργεια - energeia, "activity, operation", fromἐνεργός - energos,

"active, working"[1]) is a quantity that is often understood as the ability to perform work.
This quantity can be assigned to any particle, object, or system of objects as a
consequence of its physical state.

Diet, in relation to food, might mean:

 Diet (nutrition), the sum of the food consumed by an organism or group.

 Dieting, the deliberate selection of food to control body weight or nutrient intake
 Diet food, foods that aid in dieting
 Cuisine, the diet of a particular culture

The calorie is a pre-SI metric unit of energy. It was first defined by Nicolas Clément in
1824 as a unit of heat, entering French and English dictionaries between 1841 and
1867.[1] In most fields its use is archaic, having been replaced by the SI unit of energy,
the joule. However, in many countries it remains in common use as a unit of food
energy.
