BRIEF HISTORY OF FSUCTI

The former Father Urios Academy, later named as Urios College of Trento and
presently known as Father Saturnino Urios College of Trento, Inc. with SEC Reg. No.
CN200929464 was established on June 12, 1962 by Rev. Fr. William Van Ameyde, a Dutch
Missionary of the congregation of the Sacred Heart (MSC). This institution was formerly
located along the bahayan river of Trento which was the only barangay of Bunawan. It was
named in memory of Father Satunino Urios a Jesuit Priest who works hard in the
Christianization of the natives then one province off Agusan, Surigao and Northern Davao.

Father Saturnino Urios College of Trento, Inc., located in the Municipality of Trento,
province of Agusan del Sur, is a Catholic, diocesan and educational institution owned and
managed by the Diocese of Butuan through the Roman Catholic Bishop who is the Chairman
of the Board of Trustees. The school aims to establish a standard of excellence in academic
and spiritual formation in various fields. It continuously endeavors to maintain and strives to
realize its mission: for a balanced and strong foundation of human formation thru a quality
Christian, Catholic and Socio-Cultural education. As indicated in the Articles of
Incorporation, the purposes for which Father Saturnino Urios College of Trento, was
incorporated were as follows:
1. To provide education to its students in these levels: pre-school, grade school, high
school, technical – vocational and college;
2. To transmit quality education through excellent academic programs and Christian
formation imbued with Catholic and Gospel values.
3. To serve the development needs of the locality in terms of research/computer
programs, training programs on self-help projects, cooperative undertakings, and
other extension services.

This institution started with the first and the second year high school students in
school year 1962-1963. Eventually on May 19, 1965 it turned out its first batch of graduates.
As the years rolled by, its population increased since this was the only secondary in the
locality until 1971 when the barangay high school now Trento National High School opened
to cater to the needs of more secondary students.

Since its foundation, this institution has managed by various administrators of

different educational backgrounds and competencies, they are as follows:

Rev. Fr. William Van Ameyde as Director with Mr. Jaime dela Victoria as Principal.
Rev. Fr. Peter Rosenhart, MSC as Director and Mrs. Ofelia J. Ticao as Principal.
Rev. Fr. Vicente Portillo, MSC as Director
Rev. Fr. Joannes Maria Hoff, MSC as Director with Mr. Filoteo Barrios as Principal.
Mr. Santiago Cabrera, the Director from 1972-1975 with Mr. Rodolfo Valencia as Principal.

From 1975 to 1983, the administration of the school was turned-over to the Society of
the Divine Word (SVD) under the following administrators:

Bro. Eugene Orog, SVD

Bro. Faro Gatchalian, SVD
Rev. Fr. Antonio Aranas, SVD as Director with Mr. Zacarias Fuentes as Principal.
4

In 1983, the management of the school was truned-over to the Diocesan Clergy:

Rev. Fr. Voltaire Rono as Director with Mr. Zacarias Fuentes as Principal.
Rev. Fr. Achilles Ayaton as Director with Mr. Zacarias Fuentes as Principal.
Rev. Fr. Alberto D. Parajes as Director with Mr. Zacarias Fuentes as Principal.
Rev. Fr. Loven E. Tutas as Director with Mr. Zacarias Fuentes as Principal.
Rev. Fr. Roldan M. Nuñez as Director with Mrs. Delia F. Solivio as Principal.
Rev. Fr. Roldan M. Nuñez as Director with Dr. Resurreccion M. Chavez, PhD as Principal.

It was only on January, 2009 that Dr. Wilma B. Balmocena, PhD, the first woman and
lay Director was appointed by Bishop Juan de Dios M. Pueblos, DD as the School Director
with Dr. Resurreccion M. Chavez, PhD as Principal.

Because of the felt need for the school to expand its educational services, the
Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) department was opened to answer the
clamor of the parishioners to give opportunities for higher education to the young people in
the community and those from neighboring municipalities. They believed that FSUCTI has
the capability to mold students to become morally, physically and spiritually competitive in
their chosen field of endeavors. At present, Father Saturnino Urios College of Trento offers
five technical courses and modular training programs namely:
Regular Programs:
Two-Year in Information Technology
Two-Year in Computer & Electronics Technology
Two-Year in Business Administration
Two-Year in Computer Programming
Two-Year in Office and Information Management
Modular Programs:
PC Operations NC II
Computer Hardware Servicing NC II
Consumer Electronics Servicing NC II
Bookkeeping NC III
Programming NC IV.

The offering of TVET courses is intended to give more opportunities to college-age

youth in the school’s service area, especially the working students and those who cannot
afford to study at big urban centers like Davao City, Butuan City, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu City
or Manila, thereby enhancing the sphere of influence of the college in the community. Thus,
while being able to serve the needs of the people for higher education, the school is also
assured of a reasonably fair return of its investment which in turn will heighten to the
improvement of its over-all capability to deliver quality education to its clientele.

In its forty-eight years of existence as an educational institution, Father Saturnino

Urios College of Trento, Inc. has produced thousands of graduates who have become
successful in their chosen field of endeavor, as community leaders, as responsible citizens
