A DETAILED LESSON PLAN ALGEBRA

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the student is expected to:
a. Identify and complete perfect square trinomials;
b. solve quadratic equation by using the Square Root Property; and
c. perform quadratic equations by completing the Square.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Subject Matter : Topic: Solving Quadratic Equation by Completing the
Square.
References: Next Century Mathematics (second edition) pp. 11-14
Instructional Materials: Overhead projector, color paper, chalk or white board
marker, manila paper. Values infuse: Cooperation, Collaboration
III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES
A. Review/Drill

Since you have found your partner we


will start the activity. Okay class do you
know the one of the famous educational
game today it’s called “4 pics 1 word”.
I’ll give you three sets of pictures. The
group who can guess what the pictures
means and got a highest score receive
a gift. Just clap your hands three times
to recognize that you want to guess or
answer the puzzle. If a group has a
wrong answer the other group is given a
chance to answer the puzzle. You are
only given one chance to answer. Okay Students: Okay Sir
class?

In a count of three you may start


interpreting, analyszing and guess the
pictures. One… Two… Three!
(The students start guessing the
picture.)

C. LESSON PROPER
ACTIVITY: “Please get one strip
according to what color you want” (red,
blue, green, orange, yellow, brown, pink
and black) (Students will pick the color that they
want)
“Those who have the same color of the
strip, please group yourselves”

group their selves)
“Now please choose your leader that
will lead the group, and a secretary who
will be responsible to list the members
of the group who are actively
participating in the activity and those
who didn’t not participate.

will choose their best leader and will

factorable equation and 4 not factorable
equation”
“Sir what is factorable and not
factorable?”
“Factorable is the quadratic equation
that can be solve by factoring”
“How about sir the not factorable
equation?”
“Not factorable quadratic equation can
be solve by completing the square”
D. Abstraction
“Completing the square is a method to
produce a perfect square trinomial or
PST on the left side of the quadratic
equation. Then, use the Square Root
Property to solve the equation.” (Students are listening well)

“Now to understand how to solve


quadratic equation by completing the
square, let’s try to answer those
equation on the board who has no
solution” “Yes sir” (Students are interested to
learn another way of solving quadratic
equation)

E. Assignment
