Philosophy Statement

The purpose of education is not simply to teach students but influence them to become

the best version of themselves possible. It provides the groundwork in preparation for the rest of

a person’s life as it enables exploration into new ideas and the world around us. Teachers who do

this effectively can help open many doors for their students to follow meaningful and successful

lives. Therefore, a teacher’s philosophy is important as it sets the tone for the classroom

environment. Philosophies often change as teachers evolve in their profession, but they always

intend to uphold a set of values which will be benefit the student.

Students should be active learners on the search to obtain more information. They should

not be afraid to ask questions because it can enhance learning and create a sense of curiosity

about lessons. Students should enjoy the material their material and see its value in the learning

process. They should look to their classmates as resources and learn from one another. Students

should also be held accountable for their actions; this promotes responsibility and independence

which can get lost when not sustained. Students should also possess intrinsic motivation to retain

their drive for knowledge.

I believe it is the teacher's role to create an environment which is inclusive and permits

students to feel safe when they are present. In accordance with the ideas expressed by John

Dewey, teachers should respect each student of their different cultures, religions and family

backgrounds. Generating a welcoming space grants the opportunity for personal connections

with students. A teacher should be a guide, one which provides students with the necessary tools

to excel. They should foster a space which allows students to feel confident in their learning and

grow from their mistakes.

I do not believe students all learn the same way; everyone processes information in

distinct manners. Students learn differently and it is important to adapt to these needs by offering

different mediums of instruction. They should be presented with hands-on activities which

enables them to learn through experience and inquiry. Another essential concept is having open

conversations with students and getting them involved on what is taught in the classroom. By

doing so, there can be a constant flow of feedback for a teacher so they may assess the best ways

to instruct their class.

Teaching philosophies help maintain focus on what is truly important and necessary in a

classroom. As my philosophy continues to enhance, I always want my values and beliefs to

improve students. Everyone contributes to the culture of a classroom which is why it is ever

evolving. Nobody ever stops learning and there is never a limit that we can reach. I want my

students to understand that knowledge is not limited to school but all walks of life.
