ENG 101
12/2/19
Final Course Reflection

My writing connects back to me; my past, my interests, who I see myself to be as a

person. The styles and rhetoric I used in my essays fluctuate to accommodate the main point of

the essays I write. I used colorful words and imagery to paint a picture and try to effectively tell a

story. When creating rough drafts for my essays I would try to stay true to whatever outline or

list I had made beforehand. I would create a simple rough draft typing down the bones,

essentially, of my paper. While not going on a tangent I keep on track of the central idea and

complete the rough draft. Then comes the challenging part: the final essay. It takes me a while to

complete this part of my paper, I try to find words and phrases to fill my essay. I generally scrap

the rough draft, taking parts and pieces of it to create the final piece. This step in my writing is a

very noticeable pattern that I used in all my papers. The continuous adding and removing is a

technique I use in my writing. Yes, no may be so yes no may be so yes no maybe so yes no may

Habits of my mind that I have kept mental notes of since my Introduction essay are; how

I hold back immensely when talking about myself, carefully creating speech to draw in my

audience to the main point of the essay I am writing at the moment, and reflecting heavily on my

papers past the point of submission. As I reflect, I find it easy, while also at the same time

complicated, to pull together the thoughts in my mind that led me to create my essays. I think

about my writing processes as a whole; how long it takes timewise to write my rough drafts, how

I come up with my essays, and how I conclude each one. As I write I think about “How can I uh

revise this essay to make it even better, or to better suit the goals and ideas I had for it?” I focus
on being as specific as possible when I write. Having similar thoughts as this help me into rein in

any stray thoughts I have while writing my essays. Yes, no may be so yes no may be so yes no m

As I look back on my essays, I can conclude that there has been significant change. I

have learned how to create a picture with what I have written and learn more about myself as a

writer in the process. As I made my essays, I learned that I must be transparent and complete

open. Holding back the “truth” in my writing brings complication into my work and makes it

harder to effectively write. My evolution as a writer started with caution, following outlines and

written lists to a “T” now however, I rely more on my experience with writing rather than strict

formulas. I’d like to think that my writing is “good”, but I know I have a long way to go in order

to perfectly create a “great” essay. Moreover, I believe that progress is not linear rather it is

something that can always return to a point of origin before starting again. That is how I see my

evolution as a writer, I am on a continuous hill upward however, I can always fall back to where

I was and start again. I do not see this as a failure but each time as a learning experience bringing

more progress. Y n y n y n y n y y n y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y y yy y y y y y

As I continue to write in the future the habits that I will continue to repeat are; creating an

outline but not strictly following it, becoming more open in my writing, following the central

idea of my papers, and continue to create a picture with my writing.
