INTRODUCTION

People tend to do better things when they have someone or something urges them

to do so. There are things in this world that drives them to get and achieve what they

really want in their lives. And what drives them is called “motivation.” It serves as the

process of arousing students interest for a lesson and also defined as the act or process of

giving someone a reason for doing something. ( Merriam-webster ). Motivation as the

psychologist explains, can have different effects on someone’s' behavior and how people

pursue their goals and it has two types which is the intrinsic motivation and extrinsic

motivation.

It is said that when talking about the intrinsic motivation it involves engaging in a

behavior because it is personally rewarding; essentially, performing an activity for its

own sake rather than the desire for some external reward while extrinsic motivation was

about when we are motivated to perform a behavior or engage in an activityto earn a

reward or avoid punishment. In this case, they engage in a behavior not because they

enjoy or satisfies them but because they want to get something in return or avoid

unpleasant punishment.

Based from the meaning above, we the students of Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng

San Pablo conducted an interview with 8 selected students, 2 students from each year

level and the interview was being conducted to know first, which of the two types of

motivation they have favored the most, why they prefer intrinsic and not extrinsic and

vice versa. Then, who or what makes them to choose that type of motivation and lastly, is

their motivations falls under the intrinsic or extrinsic type of motivation.

As we conducted the interview, aside from being informed on what drives them to

do better in specific things they became knowlegeable on what the types of motivation

and realized that every thing or every person that motivates them has a big part on

pursuing their goals in life.

OBJECTIVES

 To gather new insights about motivation, intrinsic motivation and extrinsic

motivation.

 To know what the students favor the most between the two types of

motivation.

 To be able to share how this motivation can help the students to succeed in

their future challenges.

for 1st year and 3rd year students have chosen intrinsic motivation and only two students

have chosen extrinsic motivation. This means that each level has different perception

about which motivation they preferred the most.

This figure shows that the extrinsic got a percentage of 25% which is 2 out of 8

respondents while intrinsic got 75% which is 6 out of respondents. This shows that

respondents chose intrinsic more than extrinsic. This means that students mostly get their

motivation within themselves and they didn’t depend on other people in order to have

themselves be motivated.

GROUP INSIGHTS

Based from the results on the interview we have conducted, we learned

that most from our preferred motivation is intrinsic. It implies that motivation

must come from ourselves first before others. Being self-motivated means trusting

yourself in whatever decision you will made and believing that you will get thru

whatever challenges you will face. When you are intrinsically motivated, you are

doing every little thing in excellent way not because you want to please others.

The main reason is you’re doing things because it satisfies you. You are not

expecting anything in return by doing this. Being able to trust yourself also means

you can trust other people too. The ability to motivate yourself is an important

skill. It is the way that will drives us to keep going even in the face of setbacks, to

take up opportunities and to show commitment to what they want to achieve.

What we also learn and what we understand why people tend to choose intrinsic

motivation is because this is the type of motivation that will stay within you and

will not get by other people.

We also like to add about what we learn about extrinsic. Though some
may got the idea wrong, but having someone as a role model is what really fuel us
to become like them. It also shows who is really close to you and what impact
they made in your life that makes them your motivation. We are not pleasing
people, we just want to return the motivation they have given us through being
excellent for the things we do.

NARRATIVE REPORTS

In order to make this interview successful, the leader divided the group into two.

Cheena and Mecaella are the one who is assigned to gather information and make

interview for the first year and second year students while Flor and Arlyn is the one who

is responsible for the third year and fourth year student. They have decided to ask two

question and the follow up question is depends on the flow of the interview. The one who

have conducted the interview is also the one who is responsible to transcribe it and sent it

to the leader to conduct it. During the interview, the challenges that the interviewers

faced are some of their respondents weren’t comfortable in speaking the English

Language. What the interviewers did is they let them speak in Taglish so they can

comfortably share their thoughts. Some of the respondents are also shy to take pictures

but the interviewer assured them that whatever information they have gathered will be

confidential. That makes the respondents agreed to take pictures.

In writing this paper, the leader once again divided each part in each member so

all the members have contributed in the success of writing this paper. All of the members

participate and done their part excellently so they didn’t faced much challenges in writing

the paper. The teamwork to have this project done is achieved.
