Introduction
Since the 1960s, Cuban South–South cooperation (SSC) has been a
cornerstone of the regime’s revolutionary foreign policy. More than
just a framework for collaboration, it has been a political strategy for the
legitimacy and consolidation of the Cuban state, and a tool for shaping
and promoting an endogenous “Third Worldism” ideology rooted in
anti-colonialism, anti-imperialism, and international solidarity principles.
The authors would like to thank María Cristina Cielo and Isaline Bergamaschi for
their comments and suggestions on the first version of this chapter.
