In such cases,the innate quality of the retrograde planet will be important and developed
internally to the native, as well as the psychology of the planet (psychology is internal).

However, the things in life ruled by the retrograde planet AS A HOUSE RULER AND
ORGANIC, LIVING KARAKA will not unfold smoothly. This is because our life on Earth,
through form, unfolds in a linear fashion. Or you might say, life on Earth, time, moves
forward to our bodies - the retrograde planet is moving backwards relative to how our
life on Earth is unfolding.

Example:
Jupiter retrograde for a Libra Ascendant will support and compel the native to seek
wealth, wisdom, a higher sense of purpose and meaning. Tthese are all traits of Jupiter
as a “non-living karaka” or indicator.

However, Jupiter is the karaka of children and teachers (living things) and for Libra
ascendant rules the third house (courage, self-will, interests) and the sixth house (debts,
competition and facing unpleasantness). Thus the Libra native with retrograde Jupiter
may have difficulty with siblings, acting with courage, experimenting and trying new
things, managing debts and expenses. These are all traits of the third and the sixth
houses. The qualities ruled by Jupiter as a house Lord will be compromised when
retrograde.

Generally the things a retrograde planet rules as a house ruler become sources of
confusion relative to satisfying its external aim. This “crisis of confident action” becomes
the catalyst for the introspection that follows.

For example, using retrograde Jupiter for Libra as an example, you may see a
confusing relationship with siblings and other “ally” types of relationships. This confusion
brings indecision about what to do, which causes more reflection.

House and Sign of the Retrograde Planet

The house occupied by the retrograde planet shows the type of activities that challenge
or involve them.

The sign/dignity will determine the ease or stress through which those things unfold and
the deeper lessons realized.

By Transit

When A planet goes retrograde in the sky the same principles apply. Meaning, it will be
a time of reflection based on the nature of the planet, the houses it rules for each
person. The scenarios will unfold relative to the house position/dignity of the transiting,
retrograde planet.
For example, if Mercury goes retrograde in Aries, a person with the Aquarius ascendant
will experience the fifth and eighth house ruler retrograde in the third house. The native
likely experience confusion around children, students, teachers (fifth House things) as
well as fears and deeper insights (eight house things) into question. They will be
compelled to act with courage and impulse (third House/Aries themes) at this time - but
feel hesitant about doing so.
