Providing
the Most Effective Evidence

RPL Assessors / Facilitators and the RTOs want to ensure that your
evidence matches the relevant qualification. They will look for the
following factors:

Authenticity - Your evidence should show that the work is your own.
As for trade photos or videos, include photos of you performing
the tasks.

Sufficient - Your evidence should sufficiently demonstrate that

all aspects of competency for your sought-after qualification are
satisfied.

Current - Your evidence should either be current or recent. Older

evidence may no longer be considered relevant by the RTOs.

Valid - Your evidence should be valid for the qualification you are
seeking. That means that it should be directly related to the field of
competency that is being assessed.
Practical & Theoretical
Assessments
Depending on the qualification of your choice, you may have to
complete a practical or theoretical assessment to satisfy certain
units of competency. These assessments are done to verify that
your knowledge and skills meet regulatory and industry standards.

The assessment could include the following:

• Face-to-face or online theoretical assessment

• Undertaking trade work independently
• Correct application and use of measuring instruments and tools.
• Assessment of the correct application and use of tools and
equipment for the relevant trade practice
• Diagnosing and correcting faults, and undertaking repairs
• Supervision and imparting of trade skills or knowledge to
apprentices and other staff members

“Getting my qualification was so much quicker and easier with

Skills Certified than what I had anticipated. It took only a few
days to process my assessment once I sent in my application
and supporting documents. Skills Certified is truly one of the
most professional organisation I have ever dealt with.”

Minding the Gap

In the event that you are unable to provide satisfactory evidence

to determine competency, you may still be able to qualify, but
“Thanks to Skills Certified, I now have a professional qualification,
one of the following conditions may apply:
after many years in the construction industry. Their assistance and
excellent service has opened new doors for me. Many thanks.”
The RTO may issue a statement of attainment listing only
NICHOLAS MCAULAY
the successfully completed units of competency.

You may be required to complete gap training, which the

RTO will coordinate. Gap training will usually be facilitated
and assessed online via the RTO’s e-learning portal.

Live, face-to-face gap training may be conducted.
