Education Today:

Technology has changed many aspects of life with education not being exemption

(Dankbaar & De Jong, 2014, p. 257-259). The system which was used by learners in the olden

days is of a significant difference to what we see today. In around 14th century, student use to

seat on rows with their books and pens open in front of them. They were required to follow

keenly on what was being taught by the teacher and write everything down. Some would get

bored in the process to the extent of sleeping. Since the teachers could not pay attention to all

the students at the same time, some will get involved in unnecessary discussion more so if the

classroom was too full.

Nevertheless, it is inevitable to say that the laxity in not seen in modern learning. In most

classes, especially in universities and colleges, you will find student glued in either laptops or

tablets while going through the social media platform instead of concreting in class. Some

people will thus conclude that technology has negatively influenced education while most people

with me being one of them sees technology as a blessing more so in the education sector.

Modern learning system has profoundly been advanced through technological

advancement. With the availability of tools such as computer and access to the internet. A

student can easily access e-books, do research online. In the early days, students had to purchase

textbooks or attend lectures to get notes. As a result, most learners missed a lot of relevant

content if they did not participate in lectures. With the invention of the internet, just with a

fingertip, extensive information can be obtained online through books, images, and videos.

Additionally, it is not mandatory for the learner to physically attend lectures. The modern system

provides e-learning where one can attend lectures while they are miles away provided they have

access of internet and electronic devices that can go through internet to access the required

information (Horn & Staker, 2014, p. 16-21).

Based on these, it is inevitable to deduce that advancement in technology has to a great

extent changed both the role of teachers and students. In the olden days, teachers were

considered the primary source of knowledge. It was the obligation of teachers to carry a

thorough research to ensure that they gave the learners the right content. Today, the role of the

teacher has been made easier as the student do research on their own. Therefore, with a lot of

invention and innovation in technology, the learning system will be made even more comfortable

and attractive than it has ever been before.
