Insights on Work Immersion

Since work immersion is a part of the current education syllabus, the K to 12 Curriculum,
I am somehow aware of what it is about and what it is for. As a graduating student who is getting
ready and prepared for tertiary education and soon for the work force, it is privilege to have
advance knowledge and experiences to be mindful of what I should expect and anticipate in a work
environment. To have a glimpse of what it is like to be in a formal office and work for a superior
is something that I am both excited and scared of.

I am aware that the Department of Education presented this feature in the senior high school
program. Work immersion consists of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation in
which grade 12 students are required to undergo. Hands-on experience is the most effective way
to enrich a student’s skills in his chosen field of specialization. This will give us the opportunity
to become familiar with the work place as well as for us to obtain knowledge and apply our abilities
and competencies relevant to our chosen program. Furthermore, we are able to develop our social
and communication skills in a work space since interaction with clients. co-employees, and
superiors is unavoidable and a huge part when working. The aftermath of the work immersion will
be our deciding factor on whether we are prepared to be employed or still pursue postsecondary
education. A student’s work immersion is inclined to his preferred course or program in college
which is why it is essential for a student to know at this point the program he wishes to take and
the profession he desires to have.
Meanwhile, I am also aware that there are few demerits of work immersion. The major one
is that each student’s safety is not assured at all times because negative incidents that may happen
during the course of the activity are beyond human control. Let us just hope that such occurrences
will not happen. In addition, many students might get nervous and anxious once they step in the
work place and it might cause them to not perform well. This may stress them out and feel
overwhelmed.

Even though it is heart-racing and nerve-racking to join the work force, it is a risk any
person should take because it is for the betterment of oneself. Like I said above, I am excited since
it is an honor to be working momentarily for a company so I can be aware of the proper work
etiquette and at the same time, I am scared of making a mistake that might disappoint the person I
am working for.

Having a chance to try this kind of activity or task to prepare myself in the future is
something that I am grateful for, since in the end, I am the one who will benefit from all of this. It
is those little steps of the process that really matter so can say that I have step out of my comfort
zone and overcome it.
