 Make sure that students know what I expect of them

and the matching activity

Lesson stages:

Routine
 I will sing the “Hello song” and the “bye-bye song” and encourage
children to sing with me as part of their routine.

Lead-in
 Purpose:

- To develop linguistic skills by singing the song


- To introduce Funny Kim
 Timing: 5 minutes
 Activity description and instructions as they will be said to
students (include direct speech):
- Tell them “Sit down here, around me, please! (I will sit down
on a chair with Kim Puppet) and I will introduce it, saying
“Hello,I’m Kim! How are you?” I will a gesture inviting
children to answer Kim.
- I will start explaining that Funny Kim is visiting us to
introduce his family.

Presentation
 Purpose:
- To present vocabulary related to Family members
- To present the strucutre “Who is he/she?” “This is my…”

 Timing: 10 minutes

 Activity description and instructions as they will be said to


students (include direct speech):
- Ok children, let’s hear Funny Kim, he is going to talk about his
family. (I will hold up Kim puppet and in the other hand I will
hold different puppets of family members, showing and saying
Who are they are, encourage children repeat the new words
about family. Then, Kim will ask children about their families,
trying elicit answers like “my mum is…” “my sister is…”

 Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson with the


next one:
- “Very good,, now Kim is happy because you introduced him
your family to him too, thank you!. Please, go to the tables”. (I
will stand up and touch the tables inviting them to sit down).

Development of the sequence of activities

Activity 1: Matching game

 Purpose:
- Consolidate the vocabulary of family members through a
matching game
 Timing: 10 minutes
 Activity description and instruction as they will be said to
students (include direct speech):
- Tell them we are going to do a matching game: “now, look at
the sheet of paper, you must match the family members,
saying this is my mum or this my dad. Finally, you can paint
them, telling me what’s your mum or dad’s favourite colour”.
 Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson
with the next one:
- “Well done! Excellent! Now, let’s do the next activity.

Activity 2: Making a puzzle

 Purpose:
- To develop imagination and motor skills by making a puzzle

 Timing: 10 minutes
 Activity description and instructions as they will be
said to students (include direct speech):
- “Listen please, I will give you a puzzle about family members
and you must assemblemake it. When you finish, you can stick
it in this piece of paper, ok?” (I will make sure they understand
what they have to do and I will help them if it is necessary,
showing children a puzzle finished and telling them they do
one similar).
 Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson
with the next one:
- “Good job! Your puzzles are great! Now, come here” (I will
invite them to sit down in a circle).

Activity 3: A family poem

 Purpose:
- Consolidate the vocabulary about family members
- Improve their listening skills

 Timing: 5 minutes

 Activity description and instructions as they will be


said to students (include direct speech):
- I will tell children that I will read a poem, “now, I will read a
poem for you, then you can help me, repeating the family
member words” (I will use mimes as a scaffolding strategy,
pointing and showing children the family members so they
can repeat).
 Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson
with the next one:
“Do you like it? Excellent! A big applause for all of you”,
now stand up and sing the bye - bye song.

Closure

 Purpose:
- say goodbye
- Model the goodbye song

 Timing: 5 minutes

 Activity description and instruction as they


will be said to students (include direct
speech):
- “Ok girls and boys, let’s sing the goodbye song, show me your
hands and sing with me”

 Transition comment to link each stage of the lesson


with the next one:
- “Goodbye girls, goodbye boys, see you next class”
