Develop a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) related to WIM Development.

1. What does the acronym NOSS stand for?

The acronym NOSS stands for National Occupational Skills Standards.

2. What is NOSS?

NOSS is a document that outlines the dexterity required of an employee working in Malaysia
at a certain level of employment to achieve specific skills. Main Features NOSS are Career-
Based, follows the career structure of a given field and prepared by a pool of industry experts
and skilled workers who carry out the job.

3. Which government agency is responsible for NOSS development?

Department of Skills Development (DSD), Ministry of Human Resources (JPK)

4. Who are involved in developing the NOSS?

The committee panel consists of industrial practitioner representing the major players in
the respective industry, relevant authority and professional bodies.

5. A NOSS package consists of three main sections namely Standard Practice, Standard
Content and Curriculum of Competency Unit. What are the main contents of the :

a. Standard Practice

The Standard Practice (SP) is a section of the NOSS document that describe and
overview of occupational background. The SP covers the following elements;

3. What is a Competency Unit?

Competency unit divided into two – Core competencies and Elective competencies.

Core competency: The competencies that is common / generic to the job according to the
industry.

Elective competencies: The competencies that is required for a specific industry /sub sector
/ manufacturer.

4. What does WIM stand for?

Written Instructional Materials Development Course (WIM)


Course of WIM Development aims to provide exposure to Public and Private Accredited
Center regarding Instructional Plan, Explanation Paper, Assignment and Working Paper
development based on NOSS (DESCUM).

5. Which section of the NOSS will be referred in WIM development?

Curriculum of Competency Unit - CoCU

a. Study the NOSS based on the programme you are conducting or relevant to your field of
specialization.
b. Select a Competency Unit (CU) for WIM development. Review the CoCU for the selected
CU and make any necessary amendments on the following aspects:
i. Sequencing of the work activities – are the work activities sequenced in a logical
manner or should they be arranged differently?
ii. Related knowledge - any addition?
iii. Related skills – any addition?
iv. Attitude, Safety and Environmental - any addition?
