ACS

• What is the ACS

◦An updated version of the PTS.

• Has a new embedded coding system

◦PA= Private Pilot Airplane

◦V= Performance Maneuvers

◦A= Steep turns

◦KS= Accelerated Stalls

• Standards remain the same

• Why?

◦There has never been a corresponding set of

knowledge test standards

◦Resulted to out of date, irrelevant, overly

complex questions.

• Who developed it?

◦3 phases

‣ Phase 1 (2011-12)

‣ Phase 2 (2012-2013)

‣ Phase 3 (2013-2014)

• Phase 1- ARC, or the aviation rule-making

committee) developed the Acs concept
• Phase 2- ARAC or the aviation rule-making advisory council developed the concept through
testing.

• Phase 3- ARAC finalizing the testing process.

• How is it better?

◦Better test questions

◦Eliminates irrelevant questions

◦New coding system ensures that everything has to be directly tied to the ACS, not just a
broad overview like the PTS.
