Differentiation activities (Support): Learners answer the easy questions
(questions that requires short answers, for example, what do you think our lesson
will be about for today? Can you tell what the usual weather conditions of UAE are?)

Differentiation activities (Stretch): Ask these learners some critical thinking

questions. For example, why do you think it is very hot here in UAE?. In addition,
the game that I will implement in the post stage will be challenged because
they only have 30 seconds to think about the correct word and select it.
Moreover, divide them into all the groups, so they can support the lower
students.

Differentiation activities (Support): Use pictures, definitions and examples

to explain the new vocabulary to aid their comprehension process.

Reflection:

The topic of the lesson was "living comfortably", which was an introduction for a writing lesson,
where students will be required to write an essay about the buildings in the UAE in the past and
present. I taught grade nine students and the lesson was in the classroom. The lesson objectives
were to recognize the new vocabulary, to read and identify specific information in a simple text.
I started the lesson by explaining the rules of the positive reinforcement strategy. Then, I showed
the students a video to introduce the topic of the lesson. After that, I began explaining the new
vocabulary with providing some examples and pictures. Thence, I asked them to open their learner
books to read a text about UAE climate and buildings and identify some information to answer
the questions about the text. At the end, I played a game with students to check their understanding
of the new vocabulary.

I had many strength points in this lesson. Firstly, I presented a video to engage and attract students'
attention. Visual aids like pictures and videos are enormously powerful weapon that can be used
to engage students in the classroom (Ferlazzo, L. 2012). Secondly, I differentiated the activities
according to students learning styles and abilities. Weselby, C (2014) clarified that professional
and successful teachers differentiate activities, strategies and instruction to meet students' needs.
Thirdly, I applied an effective, interesting and amazing game that students really liked and
enjoyed. Students worked as groups in which they needed to listen to the definitions I said and
select the correct word card of the new vocabulary from the mixed cards on the table. I
implemented this game because I believed that it would improve students kinetically, cognitively,
linguistically and socially. Fourthly, I used the small black board to record students' behavior and
its influence on students was obvious. Students were quiet and behaved politely to avoid receiving
any red point and get a candy.

On the other hand, I had some areas, which need to be improved. First, I took a long time to
explain the new vocabulary because I gave more than one example for each word, which was
unnecessary. In addition, I did not applied writing activities because this lesson was an
introduction for a writing lesson. Therefore, in my future lessons, I will try to manage my time so
I do not take a long time on explaining unnecessarily things. Moreover, I should implement some
writing activities because our focus in this semester are writing and grammar.
