Please read all instructions carefully before starting to make your
Pocket Pixie!!

LAYOUT AND CUTTING

: If you’d like, copy the pattern pieces onto sturdier cardstock –

they’ll last longer that way.
: Cut out pattern pieces and lay HEAD, BODY, ARMS and LEGS
onto skin tone felt and the DRESS FRONT and BACKS and SHOES
onto coloured felt.
: Using a sharp pair of scissors, carefully cut out each piece.

HEAD

: Referring to the illustration as a guide, embroider a tiny nose

and mouth, making sure to centre them toward the bottom of the
face.

: Being very careful, make two tiny holes slightly higher and on
either side of the nose with the tip of a very sharp pair of
scissors. (Embroidery scissors work best.) Insert safety eyes
and connectors at back.
If you like, place tiny stitches at the outer corners of the eyes
for eyelashes.
: Whipstitch darts on HEAD FRONT and HEAD BACK, making sure to
sew them from the back of the felt. Gently open each piece.
: Lay HEAD FRONT onto HEAD BACK, wrong sides together and pin.
: Starting at the bottom of the head, blanket stitch all the way
around, leaving a space open at the bottom for stuffing. Stuff
firmly and blanket stitch closed.
: Add some colour to her cheeks using your pencil crayon or
powdered blush.

BODY

: Whipstitch around entire body starting at the neck and going all
the way around to the base of the neck on the opposite side.
Stuff firmly and whipstitch closed.
: Run a gathering stitch just below the neck opening and tighten
the thread, closing the hole. Hand stitch securely.
ARMS

: Whipstitch around arm, leaving an opening at the back. Stuff

gently and close.

LEGS

: Whipstitch legs, starting at the top. Stuff and close, making

sure that the seam is running down the centre of the leg.
ATTACHING BODY PARTS

: Pin head to body. Attach with embroidery thread using a ladder

stitch and going round and round till head is secure and not too
wobbly.

: Pin arms to sides of body. Using a long needle threaded with

embroidery thread, insert underneath one arm and bring it through
the body and out through the other arm. Bring the needle through
the arm again, imagining if you will, that you are sewing two-
holed buttons on at the top of each arm. Go back and forth a
few times and end off under an arm.

: Pin legs to body and ladder stitch front and back of each leg
to the base of the body.
DRESS AND SHOES

: Whipstitch the two DRESS BACK pieces together, stopping at

the dot.
: I’ve used a 3 inch length of doubled embroidery thread on each
side at the top to make a bow for closing, making sure that the
knot is on the inside.

: Place the pocket(s) onto the DRESS FRONT and appliqué on,
leaving the top edge open.
: Lay DRESS FRONT onto DRESS BACK, wrong sides together and
whipstitch shoulder seams. Whipstitch sides of dress together.
: Blanket stitch around neck and armhole openings.
: Embellish with lace, beads and buttons
:Whipstitch shoes together.
HAIR

Needle Felted Hair

: Decide what length you’d like for the hair (I like about 4 inches
for long and 2.5 for short). Double the length, so 8 inches for
long and 5 inches for short and cut a number of pieces of yarn in
the length you’ve chosen.
: Fold each strand in half and start needle felting the loop right
onto the seam of the head, starting at the centre of the head
and working down the sides of the head, stopping at about ear
level. As you go, needle felt the strands onto the back of the
head to just above the neck. The first layer should completely
cover the entire back of the head.
* If you run out, cut more lengths of yarn as needed.
: Needle felt a second layer of hair, just in front of the first
layer, but this time only needle felt the base of the loop and not
the entire strand. You can decide where you’d like a part and just
add more strands till you think it looks good. Cut a fringe if
desired.
Hand Sewn Hair.

: Decide what length you’d like for the hair (I like about 4 inches
for long and 2.5 for short). Double the length, so 8 inches for
long and 5 inches for short and cut a number of pieces of yarn in
the length you’ve chosen.
: Tie centre firmly with yarn, and sew the center of the yarn onto
the center of the head. Apply glue to the back of the head and
place hair on the centre seam of the head. Spread the hair
evenly onto the glue making a base layer with some of the hair to
completely cover the back of the head. Arrange the rest of the
hair and cut some fringe if you like.
