DATA AND RESULTS

Mass of the weight hanger: 49.8

Mass of the wooden block: 114.6

Horizontal plane

Rough surface area

Table 1 : Gathered data and results

Interpretation

As the mass increases, the static friction increases. This is because the normal force increases as the
mass increases. Rougher surfaces have more friction than smooth surface. Heavier objects (blocks and
loads) have more friction because they press together with greater force.

wooden block
& load Mass Force

1 5414. 2.07

Interpretation :

When maximum static friction is exceeded the surfaces start to slide past each other and kinetic
friction takes over. Kinetic frictional force is reasonably constant but smaller than maximum static
friction.

3 154.6 59.8 1516.626 586.638 2.59

Table 3 : Gathered data and results

Interpretation :

As the mass increases, the normal force also increases and the hanging mass decreases which helps
to accelerate the object, the static friction force results to uneven motion depending resulting to no net
force occur.

3 614.6 149.8 6029.226 0.25

Interpretation :

As the mass of an object increases, the normal force also increases, the kinetic friction force allows the
object to keep on sliding.

Interpretation :

Based on the calculated data or theory based, As the Mass of an object increases, the normal
force are increases also and the angle are diminishing.
