Directions: Fill in each part of the App Lesson with your own original ideas.

Please look at the

sample provided on the class website. Provide 3 to 4 apps/steps for students to complete along
with a creative title, helpful description, and relevant SC teaching standards.

Title:

Why are you reacting like that?

Relevant SC Standards:

7.P.2B.3 Analyze and interpret data to compare the physical properties, chemical properties
(neutralization to form a salt, reaction with metals), and pH of various solutions and classify
solutions as acids or bases.

Description: This app lesson will develop (grade band or subject area) students’
(lesson material focus) (understanding, knowledge, skills, etc.).

This app lesson will develop a student’s understanding of how and why certain chemicals react/
do not react with each other. The lesson is aimed at 7th graders and will focus on chemicals and
their properties.

Instructional Objective: Students will be able to...

Students will be able to understand why chemicals react with each other and/ or why they do not
react with each other.

Students will be able to identify elements based on their chemical properties.

Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will…

Students will download the app YouTube and search for ‘Precipitation Reactions: Crash Course
Chemistry #9’. They will watch this video in order to get a better (and fun) review before
completing this lab.

Step 2 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will…

Students will then download the app True or False Chemistry to test your knowledge of the
elements before they do their experiment. Students are presented with an element and an
element’s symbol and need to answer whether or not they match. Once you get one wrong, it
stops the game and gives you your score. After playing multiple rounds, you can see your
statistics. After playing 5 games, the students will screenshot their statistics and upload the
screenshot to our course management site. The student with the highest best score will receive an
incentive.

Step 3 Creation-Based (Learning Artifact) or Skill-Based App (Screenshot of

Progress): Students will…
Students will open the app Fireworks Chemistry Lab. Once the app is opened, the student must
click the ‘i’ in the bottom left hand corner to read the information necessary to complete their
firework. They can create different variations of their firework by combining different elements
and compounds. They must screen record their firework launch and submit it into another area
on our course management site.
