Male to Female ratio reflecting on students in UIT

Wadood Abdul

Introduction:

This report is about how much of UIT’s student population knows

about the students Male to Female ratio and if course instructors are
biased towards either half of the population. In this report, data was
collected from 10 unique students from different departments to
sample out answers for five common questions. Students were asked
about the given questions and their responses are also Analyzed and
attached within the report. This research mainly aims to target the
student awareness about the diversity in terms of gender in the
institute and its effects on their studies.

Analysis:

Out of the ten students that the data was gathered from, 70% knew
how many total students are present in UIT and the remaining 30%
were unaware or unsure about the total student population. Judging
from the given answers, the students evaluated the total students to
be around 1000-2000 Students. The students were then made to give
an estimated ratio of the gender diversity of the population and nearly
all but one had an observation in mind. Looking at the provided ratios,
the common answer referred to a greater number of Male students
than Female students. Analyzing the data, the most common answer
was a 70:30 Ratio putting the Male students at top. Next, students
were asked about if they knew about the previous batches position
holder and only 20% students were aware about the student. The
students were then asked about if they were aware of the Male to
Female ratio of their course facilitators and the results showed the
Male population being of higher value again with a common 70:30 ratio
according to the students. This question was then backed with a
further question asking about their views regarding any favoritism

practiced by the course facilitators based on the gender of the
students bringing unfair results to the population of the other gender.
These results showed that course facilitators did indeed favor
students depending on their gender as viewed by the students.

Methodology:

We collected data from 10 different students from unique departments

using a Sample Survey making sure we get information about as many
students from different fields and also giving an insight on more
course facilitators than if we targeted students from the same
department.

Recommendation:

Judging from the results of the surveys conducted, we can suggest a

proper evaluation of the classes and providing teachers with strict
regulations regarding any favoritism practices and conclude proper
consequences for any observed case. This will help the students that
were falling behind or often abandoned by the teachers in their
respected courses where a little attention could have helped them. An
offer for scholarships for students that show good performance in
classes and provide good results should further help the students
flourish.
