only.

2 Phase Insulated Terminal Box:

The Phase Insulated Main Terminal Box contains a 3 phase short circuit tested assembly for the connection of a 3 phase a.c. motor.

The termination assembly is rated for use at 6.6kV, 300MVA (26.3kA) or 3.3kV, 150MVA (26.3kA) with a protection clearance time of
2
0.25s and motor leads of 80mm minimum cross-sectional area.

The incoming 3 core supply cable enters the terminal box via a suitable cable gland/bolt-on plate assembly at the bottom of the
enclosure and is split. The three individual cores are then clamped between two halves of a phenolic resin and cotton fabric
clamping and spacing block and the tail ends terminated with cable lugs.

The 3 motor tails enter the terminal box via 3 plastics or metal plate mounted cable glands on the upper rear wall of the enclosure.
These cables also pass through a phenolic resin and cotton fabric clamping and spacing block and have the ends terminated with
cable lugs. The lugs on the ends of the incoming and motor cables are bolted together in a suitable manner and are insulated with
PVC and self bonding tape.

The terminal box is bolted to the motor using the bolts that secure the terminal seat for the glands for the motor tails. All joints are
suitably gasketed with neoprene rubber that is adhered to one surface of each joint and an optional phenolic resin pressure relief
vent with external protective cover may be incorporated in the back wall of the enclosure. A suitable internal earthing terminal is
provided and external earthing is achieved via the motor to which the terminal box is bolted.

The following options are available:

~ Alternative incoming cable arrangements for three individual phase conductors comprising three cable gland/bolt-on plate
assemblies.

~ Omission of the incoming cable, gland and gland plate, the wall of the enclosure left unworked. The three cables from the motor
winding are bolted to a copper terminal bar which is bound to a solid phenolic resin and cotton fabric block using glass tape. The
cable terminations are taped in a similar manner to the incoming cable joints and the incoming split clamping bar is omitted.

Units with this option are called: Neutral Connection Terminal Boxes

~ Omission of insulating tape and self bonding tape from the joints to provide an air insulated version of the terminal box.

~ Alternative material for the external gland plates comprising mild steel (standard), or cast iron or brass or stainless steel.

3 Phase Segregated Terminal Box:

The Phase Segregated Terminal Box contains a 3-phase short circuit tested assembly for the connection of external supply cables to

2
clearance time of 0.25s and motor leads of 125mm minimum cross-sectional area.

The main enclosure is fabricated as three separate enclosures (one per phase) each containing a fibre glass reinforced polyester
resin (f.r.p.) insulating box and fitted with its own bolt-on cover. Under each cover there is a phenolic resin insulating plate.
Sandwiched between the flange of the enclosure and the lip on the f.r.p. box there is a neoprene rubber gasket and a second similar
gasket between the flange of the sub-enclosure and the insulating plate under the cover. A phenolic resin pressure relief vent is
located in the rear wall of each phase compartment facing the motor.

A three core incoming supply cable enters via a suitable cable gland/bolt-on plate assembly on the bottom of a tapered splitter box
which in turn bolts on to the main enclosure. The individual cable cores pass via holes in a phenolic resin insulation board into the
individual phase sub-enclosures via rubber grommets.

The incoming cores are connected, inside the sub-enclosures, via screw clamped copper solderless connectors to the outgoing
stator cables. These cables pass through the back of the sub-enclosure via rubber bushings and pass to the motor via individual
cable glands mounted on a bolt-on gland plate on the rear of the enclosure.
