A reinforced concrete beam is design to carry a 20 kN/m dead load including its weight and

a live load of 15 kN/m. The beam is continuous both its and having a clear span of 5.65 m.

It is made of normal weight concrete with dimensions 300 mm width and 400 mm total depth. At midspan it is reinforced by 2-28 mm ϕ bars on top while at the bottom 3-28 mm ϕ bars and at supports 4-28 mm ϕ top bars and 2-28 mm ϕ bottom bars. The location of the centroid of

the reinforcements is 65 mm from the extreme fiber both tension and compression steels.

Given that fc’ = 20.7 MPa and

fy = 275.6 MPa.
