Daily Writings

1. My high school teachers have heavily influenced my literacy backbone. Mr. O’Brien was my
freshman year english teacher; Mr.O’Brien would often pick out interesting articles and demand
essays, with short due dates, which correspond to the articles. Mr.O’Brien’s techniques and high
demands helped me prepare for my future high schools courses which required heavy essay
writing.
2. During my seventh grade English class, my teacher would take the students to a special place
in the campus. My teacher suggested this special place would be helpful to the students as it
would provide some quality time to read books .The special place was a garden which was filled
with quietness, this place had a significant impact on my literary career; when ever, I would read
books at this garden, I was swallowed into world portrayed by the book itself. The garden’s
emptiness was a pleasant attribute as I had no distractions and had the ability to concentrate on
books which ultimately improved my comprehension skills.

What did your teacher say when she took yall out there? Like was she saying “guys take this
time to really get into your book” or idk lol

3. During elementary school, my friends and I used to raid the book fair and settle there for hours
or until our teacher pulled us back into class. We used to browse through the shelves and look for
astronomical books which had illustrations (a picture book). I was obsessed with astronomy as a
kid so I picked out every book relating to space and begged my parents to buy me one.

5. The first time I used a computer was about when I was nine years old, it was in elementary
school, but we weren’t general allowed to use it, it's usually present for specific classes, but one
day our teacher took us to the Computer lab in order for us to explore it. A few months later, my
dad bought me a laptop, and this was the time I am able to explore through a computer and
understand what it could do. During middle school, I was assignmented a presentation and I
chose powerpoint and this was the first time I had an interaction with this software. My middle
schools started to progress towards using online tools to do assignments and this tremendously
improved my literacy skills as I was able to understand complex reading by looking up the words
and improve my vocabulary. I believe people with computers have an undenail advantage as they
are able to access online tools and information which can play a significant role in positively
shaping theirs literacy progression.

6. My literacy inspiration thrives from others. When I read articles and essays from better
writers, I am intrigued by the wording they use in order to deliver the exact message they wanted
to. When an article is well written, it’s very easy to understand each and every word is in context
leading to the next word perfectly. Good writings set the bar, and every day I try to replicate their
techniques and progress towards achieving the high bar-standard.

7. During my graphic design class at high school, I was assigned a partner and we were to review
each other’s graphic art as well an essay that went with it. My partner gave me reasonable advice
towards my graphic art by suggesting different colored tones and settings. His peer review was
useful to my project.

8. It’s important to select the proper-type of writing style in order to address different situations
and the varying audience. Essays for academic scholarship should be an academic interest. If an
essay or a letter is addressed to a certain individual with an affiliation of academic/ job/career, it
should always be written professionally by following grammatically correct sentences and
structures.

9. I can definitely relate to topic number 1 as I believe that every single word has a unique fit to
each context so it’s crucial to choose the best word possible in order to satisfy or convey a
perfect statement. English is a rich language that is filled with words to match with different
senariors and contexts so it’s important to take advantage of plenty words present as a writer.

10. I imagined UWRT to be a general writing where we would read about irrelevant articles and
write down thoughts about them but UWRT surprised me. UWRT took an unexpected turn as it
turn be to genealogy. Genealogy is a very intriguing study as I get research my grandparents, and
other ancestors to learn about my origins. The study of Genealogy should be taken seriously as it
helps us connect to the past and helps us learn more information about our ancestors which helps
us develop into our best and most unique form.

11. My mother cooks many dishes but I tend to follow a very strict diet which prevents me from
eating them. However, there is a except for a desert called Kajju brownie. Kajju brownie is a
cashew-based dessert made up by obviously, cashews, milk, and sugar; Cashews are put in the
food processor which makes them like flour, then the flour is mashed together with milk as an
adhesive and sugar to sweeten it up. The Kajja brownie is very soft and sweet which makes it
perfect for every occasion. My mom usually makes them for my birthday or for any other special
celebration. My mother learned the recipe from my grandmother but the store boughts ones are
better anyways.

12. I am a devoted Patriots fan and football overall. I started watching football when I was
eleven years old. I played football every day with my friends and we always discussed rules and
other facts of the NFL. I thought I knew everything about the Patriots’ history but I just recently
discovered the Patriots logo is named “The Flying Elvis”. I ran into this fact when a trivia quiz
trumped me with the question of “what does the Patriots' logo mean”.

13. When I was ten years old, I used to live in an apartment that had various infrastructure
problems. The neighborhood I lived in outdid the problems of my apartment. The neighborhood
was uncivilized as the majority of the individuals there smoked and trashed the roads. When I
was thirteen years old, I moved to a quality neighborhood. The parks near the neighborhood
were filled were teenagers playing sports and having a great time. The individuals living in the
neighborhood had genuine manners keeps smoking away from the children. By moving, I also
joined a better school which helped improve my academics, therefore making me a quality
student.

14. Every-time I walk across the living room , I notice a small picture hanging in a wooden black
frame. In the picture, I was covered with a red and white shirt like the pattern of a candy cane. I
was around seven years old in the picture which made me question the background of the
picture. I didn't know where the picture was from. I asked my mother she said it was form a zoo
at Washington D.C. I had no reminiscence of visiting DC which is very weird.

15. I remember when I talked to my grandfather. I remember when I talked to my aunt. I

remember when I talked to my grandmother.

Grandfather told me that he learnt how to swim when some of his friends pushed him into a deep
well. He told me he almost died but somehow his instincts kicked in and saved him. My
grandfather suggested I should learn the same way but he was unaware that I already knew how
to swim. I learned through a traditional way with a swimming instructor. My grandfather also
said he competed in a swimming competitions which was a shock to me because my mother
doesn’t know how to swim.

Do you think the way you’re grandfather learned is efficient?

Did you like learning from an instructor?

Can you relate in anyway to him?

16. When Henry Louis Gates Jr. saw his grandfather died, he wasn’t capable of processing the
concept of death. When Henry Louis Grater Jr’s father was weeping, Henry felt a mood of
discomfort and realized the situation was more serious. When Henry Louis Grather Jr’s father
introduced him to the “estimable colored women” , Henry truly lost the sense of who he was so
his curiosity sparked him to research and record genealogy.

17. To-do list:

● Start the writing component for genealogy project.
● Interview my grandfather to gather more detail about my great grandfather.
● Finish the product to be ready for peer review.
● Revising writing prompts by using suggests from Ms.Raymond.

18. For the inquiry project, I am researching my great grandparents(mom’s side) and where they
come from. My mother and my father are from different cultures even though they lived in the
same State and followed the same virtues. My mother's family speaks a different language than
the generic language present in the State. I want to research where my mother’s side of the
family originated from. I plan to express my research in the slides by adding visual components
such as maps, languages, and pictures.

19. Neil Armstrong suggested, “In much of society, research means to investigate something you
do not know or understand.” Research is truly an investigation of information that one lacks. I
never had a chance to get to know my great grandparents as they died when my mother was
born. I took the time to investigate their everyday life in their time period (1900) throughout the
internet, reading articles, essays, personal interviews, and stories. After I got a glimpse of the
situation, I had a better understanding of my great grandparents which helped me form a
connection with great grandparents.
20. During a concert in 7th grade, I was the presenter and the pianist of my orchestra group. I
presented in front of the auditorium which was filled with about two to three hundred people.
Some of the techniques I used is holding a timer to practice the recital and repetition also helped
me relieve any public-speaking-anxiety.

21. An assignment that requires students to advertise their pitch to the public and one of the
participants of the pitch gives out a few details about their family. The UWRT student takes over
and does some research and writes a paper regarding the participant's family history. The UWRT
student will present the essay to the participant so they can discover some information and facts
about their own family.
