EDPS Final Reflection

1. From the career interview, I learned about a day in life of a manufacturing engineer with

a background of business and tips on how to be content with a career and life. For

example, Mr. Elick said, “Start with something you want to do and go for it.”. He

mentioned during the interview, internships are good sources to learn about the real

world. Mr. Elick said transitioning into the real world is a tough time because

responsibilities increase, and time management skills will be a big impact. Leadership

skills are another impactful reason because it will improve anyone's confidence in the

future. The most impactful answer from the interview to me was what type of skills and

experiences companies look for in a new employee. The type of things companies looks

for are internships and leadership skills. These will be impactful for me because I will

have more knowledge of what to look for when I start my career.

2. The positives of researching about sorts of careers towards industrial engineering are

finding out the strengths that fit with these careers and figuring out what work life is like

for this career. The Myers-Briggs letters included realistic and conventional for this

career, which matched my letters. The research was positively impactful to me because it

helped me figure out my own strengths and decisions on the career I want to pursue. The

negative aspect of these types of careers is the type of work. This work involves with
working with machines and business decision making. This is negative because I have

mixed feelings if I want to work in these types of work.

3. After the interview, my view on this career path has changed. This career path still

involves working with others and I still have an interest in working with machines.

However, after learning more about myself, I want to be able to help others physically.

The characteristics and strengths I learned about myself are that I care about others, I

have good communication skills, and a good listener and be able to complete tasks

whenever given to me. So, I think I will not continue pursuing this career and try to find a

career that involves medical work. The medical work might be a career path I would like

to pursue because I like working hands on with whatever and my harmony strength can

lead me to work with others that are ill or injured.

4. The strengths and characteristics I have learned throughout the semester has opened my

eyes. Starting out, I was interested in business and engineering type work. But now,

looking into other majors and classes, medical and being able to help others seem very

interesting to me. While taking EDPS 105, my number one basic interest area was in

athletics. Which should be correct because I love sports and being physical. I learned

working in a laboratory course is a learning environment I want to work in. Also, in team

orientation work, collaborating with others to solve problems is my personal style scale

preference. My plan is possibly transitioning into a medical field major. Nursing is a

strong interest for me because my strengths match because I like to provide for others,

and I can organize files and medical work. I plan on asking my friends in nursing and

family friends that are nurses and get tips on how nursing is like. I will research more

about nursing by using the resources given to me while taking EDPS 105.
