INTRODUCTION
Research Questions (if research questions are not specifically mentioned, what
is the theoretical background or overarching theme):

The overarching theme for this article looks at principal’s status as leaders of their
schools and their ability to lead their schools into utilizing tech more effectively and
entirely throughout their schools. Is there a difference between a principal’s outlook on
technology and their gender? Or even how technology is implemented throughout their
schools?

Purpose of the research:

The purpose of the research is to specifically focus on how principal’s view the
importance of technology, as there are few studies out there that specifically look at
leadership (ie principals) and their relationship with technology.

METHODOLOGY
What is the methodology for the research or approach used to understand the
issue? Provide information regarding the following:

Participants: 310 principals participated from a large metro area in the southwest
United States. 126 of the principals were male while 184 were female.

Procedures: Principals were given questionnaires to fill out regarding their habits and
primary use of technology within their schools.

Data Collection Methods/Data Source: The questionnaire was administered via

graduate students in the Educational Leadership program at a major doctorate granting
university. The questionnaire was designed specifically for this purpose.

Data Analysis: The analysis of the interview data began with a process of data
reduction, as responses were read several times then coded into meaningful categories.
Once the categories were established, then another researcher independently coded a
10% sample of the data to determine consistency in coding. The inter-coder reliability
results revealed a high level of agreement.

RESULTS
Findings or Results (or main points of the article):

The six categories could be broken up into using technology as primarily a [1]
communication tool (34.5%) [2] integrated into classroom instruction (27.7%) [3] data
sharing or management tool (13.6%) [4] information resource (14.5%) [5]
administrative tasks (10.0%) [6] student learning tool (9.7%)

DISCUSSIONS
Conclusions/Implications (for your profession):
Society’s use and understanding of technology increases in leaps and bounds every
year, however many school administrators are novice technology users and have little
experience or training in the knowledge and skills required to be effective technology
users. To help teachers integrate technology, school learners need to keep up with the
latest technology. Without this knowledge, administrators find it difficult to help
teachers understand the use of technology in the classroom.

REFLECTIONS
Student’s Reflections (changes to your understanding; implications for your
school/work):

I have a few reflections on the implications this might have on my profession. Primarily
that having principal support and encouragement is crucial to utilizing technology to
the fullest inside classrooms.
