WHI.13 - The student will apply social science skills to
understand the major civilizations of the Western
Hemisphere, including the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan, by
a) locating early civilizations in time and place and
describing major geographic features
Intended Learning Outcome:
• After this activity, students will be able to apply skills to
understand the Incan civilizations, identify important
dates and understand the culture/geography of the
civilization.
I Do:
(Direct Instruction)
• Before the lesson, we will have had a lesson on the
Western Civilizations, with a focus on the Incas. I will
have provided a PowerPoint for the students to follow
along as I provided a lecture through the microphone
during our virtual class meeting.
We Do:
(Guided Instruction)
• I will introduce the activity and it will be used to
reinforce the material we have already learned and
build upon it.
• Students will need to have their volumes turned on so
they can hear the instructions for the assignment but in
the event they cannot listen, the instructions are in the
“help” icon on the activity.
You Do Together:
(Collaborative Learning)
• The students will click on the interactive activity and
discuss the ideas presented using their microphones.
• Students have to speak a minimum of one time to get
participation credit.
 • A focus of the conversation will revolve around the
simulation of the “How to Read a Plan.”
You Do:
(Independent Practice)
• Students will take notes of important dates that are
discussed in the activity and discussions.
• Students will then upload a 200-400 word summary of
the activity and discussion using a Word document.
