Should the NASA Continue to Be Funded?

Topic- Nasa was first established in 1958. The question of funding NASA or not has always

been a debate because of how little success people think it has. Nasa has accomplished many Commented [MA(1]: Because…

missions that we have benefited from. NASA has helped us by creating satelites that help us

keep track of meteors and any danger coming to earth. The Hubble Space Telescope that help us

see and discover new stars, moons and planets. NASA made the Chandra X-Ray Observatory

that is one of the most sensitive telescope because it helps us with seeing matter around black

holes. To being the first humans on the moon that inspired us to find new places to call home. Commented [MA(2]: Bit of a long sentence

But NASA also has its down falls like the Space Shuttle Challenger that failed because of the

cold weather conditions that caused the tank to fail and killed all seven crew members on that

shuttle. But I strongly believe that if funding for NASA programs continues then the benefits will Commented [MA(3]: Source citation?

pay off in the end.

Other than being added to a list of people who have been on the moon, there are many

more other benefits have we gained from space exploration. We go to and from space

endangering people’s lives, using vast amounts of money and resources, and potentially putting

the entire human race in danger. People can hope for the best and prepare for the worst, but how

do you know how one will react once they are actually thrown into a situation they may or may

not have trained for? Space shuttles can be improved and fixed over and over again, but it is Commented [MA(4]: Don’t ask question tell us the

never 100% guaranteed that they will get astronauts from point A to point B safely. All the

money that goes into exploring and researching outer space could be used to solve on Earth

issues. US Congress reported the Apollo trip cost to be about $25.4 billion. The US Space

Shuttle used over 3.8 million pounds of fossil fuels in order to get into space and return back to

Earth (11 pros and cons of space exploration, 2019). If this amount of fossil fuel continues to be Commented [MA(5]: Missing citation

used regularly were going to be paying the environmental costs eventually. Meeting other

lifeforms is always a possibility, until it happens, we won’t know the danger the astronauts are in

or the danger they are putting our whole planet in. Everything about space exploration poses

risks, but the few benefits are worth it because we can get a lot more benefits.

Satellites are a great benefit to the human race. There are currently 2,200 active satellites

in orbit (11 pros and cons of space exploration, 2019). If anything were to happen, say something

changes the environment of this planet or a large asteroid heading towards us that could have the

potential to destroy the earth, we use our satellites to keep track of any danger coming our way

and any that can happen next. We use them to find ways to divert the asteroids and tells us the

speed and direction of them. These satellites give us the chance to continue the exploration to

begin colonizing in other location similar to ours. They help us in our daily life such as simple as

helping us tell what weather we will have for the day and the week, which have saved lives when

they tell us that there is a disasters coming like, hurricanes and typhoons that head for us. They

are used to monitor these disasters and will let us know how severe it will be so people can

prepare and be safe.

Space exploration can be used to our benefit in our own home. It allows us to explore and

find new materials that can be used here on earth. For example, scientist will be able to find other

sources to use as energy. They can find fossil fuels from other planets that can be used as an

energy source. We can discover how the universe was created and why it is at its current state.

These new findings can help us improve life on our own earth. For example, solar energy helps

us now. Solar energy provide electricity to our homes. If we continue to explore space we can

find new ways to use even more solar energy and any other energies that we can find to our

advantage. But not only that you can even say that some of our findings can help our medical

field. The International Space Station has a laboratory that investigates the affect of human

health both in space and on earth (Rainey, 2017). The Space Station began researching a better

understanding of human health. They have a better understanding of “aging, trauma, disease and

environmental impacts” (Rainey, 2017). These investigations that have been going on have

allowed us to know how to “mitigate bone loss, insights into bacterial behavior, and innovative

wound healing techniques” (Rainey, 2017). So these new investigations allow us to know more

about our human health and how we can improve it. They compare the human health on earth

and when they ae in orbit. They have allowed us to invent new technology like an MRI that it is

possible to perform surgery in (Rainey, 2017). They make technology that make difficult brain

surgeries easier (Rainey, 2017). All of this new technology was able to happen because of space

exploration. This helps us to improve human life here on earth.

Space exploration can help us with knowing more about our own mother earth. We can use these

explorations to know what is going on in our atmosphere. Scientist have gathered information

about our earth and now we know how to better take care of it. It allows us to see it from a

distance and we are able to tell how its sustained. But we cannot always be so sure that this

planet will last very long with our populations growing and growing. So scientist are able to

explore other planets that can potentially be our new home and will give us the chance to

colonize and have a better home than what we have now.

In conclusion, space exploration is more beneficial to all of us. With all the new technology and

new information that we have gathered with NASA. Funding NASA has always been more

beneficial because of how much they have accomplished. Yes, they may have some down falls

like leaving a lot of unused materials floating around our planet but all of these new technology

have helped us here on earth.
