TRUE PROPHETS?
Did the prophecy cease when the biblical canon was closed? One of the gifts
given by the Holy Spirit is that of prophecy.
The prophets played a special role both in Old Testament times and New
Testament times. Certainly, the prophetic gift produced the Bible.
Now, in the post-biblical era it is not possible to replace what is already written
because the biblical canon is closed. But
It is NOT necessary for the prophet to perform extraordinary acts, only to speak
what is written in the Scriptures.
Therefore, in these times anyone who is based on the Scriptures to exhort,
comfort and edify, is a prophet.
The Bible specifies different principles that base the cataloging of a prophet as
true or spurious.
4. Good fruits.
21 *because prophecy was never brought by human will, but the holy men of
God spoke by being inspired by the Holy Spirit* (2 Peter 1:21).
In short, both the ancient prophets and those of this time are recognized as
true if they always speak of the Word of God, evidencing that they are sent by the
Lord and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
