5. THE NEW EXAMINATION PATTERN, CREDIT SYSTEM OF

EVALUATION INTRODUCED FROM 2011-2012 AT ENTRY POINT
From the Academic year 2011-2012, for the Entry-point in Degree Programmes
(like B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com.) the University of Mumbai has introduced Semester
Pattern of Academic Sessions and credit based grade point of evaluation with 40%
internal assessment and 60% external assessment per subject for each semester.
For Self-financing Courses conducted in the college viz., BMS, BMM and B.Sc.
(IT), the Semester pattern and combination of internal and external assessment is
already in practice. However, the evaluation now will be as per the credit-based
grade point system.
Some technical terms that needs to be understood by the prospective students in
this regard are as follows:
Programme : A set of courses leading to award of degree line i.e. - B.Com.,
B.Com (Banking & Insurance), B.Com (Accounting & Finance), B.M.M., B.M.S.,
BSc (IT)., BSc (CS) etc.
Courses : A course in simple terms refers to the earlier concept of Subject. eg.,
a course in Rural Marketing, in History, in Chemistry etc.,
Credit : “Credit” refers to the learning hours or workload of a student (learner).
• One credit is equal to 30 learning hours.
• A credit is composed of two parts:
a) The time actually spent by the student in classroom / laboratory for
academic sessions like lectures, tutorials and practicals and
b) the hours spent by the student for completi ng assignments, projects,
library work for the completion of the course.
