MINI PROJECT
FAILURE ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE PLATE UNDER BIAXIAL TENSION
Objective:
To perform First Ply Failure and Last Ply Failure analysis of composite plate under
biaxial tension using selected Failure Criterion
To determine the Mode of Failure (where applicable)
To plot and analyse Failure Envelope for selected Failure Criterion
To produce a good technical report
Plate Geometry:
Lamination Scheme
The laminate consists of a few layers, where the layup studied is according to Case 1, Case 2 or Case 3
from published study (Tolson & Zabaras, 1991).
Boundary Condition
o Tables for FPF, LPF and Maximum displacements based on selected failure
criterion (xls)
o Graphs for FPF, LPF and Maximum displacements based on selected failure
criterion (xls)
Example:
Figure x: Failure Envelope using ….. Failure Criterion
METHODOLOGY
STAGE 1: VALIDATION
Write a report, which consist of short description of the problem, the diagrams where necessary, data
as required and the summary. The results should consist of the value of the failure loads. Conclude
your report by presenting the best computational model for the above-stated problem.
SUBMISSION OF REPORT –
Manuscript (Harcopy)
CD (Inclusive of)
