3. PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
Brand managing, it includes developing a promise, making that promise and maintaining it. It
means defining the brand, positioning the brand, and delivering the brand. Brand management is
nothing but an art of creating and sustaining the brand. Branding makes customers committed to
your business. A strong brand differentiates your products from the competitors. It gives a
quality image to your business.
In case of Edible Oil brands, the tangibles include the product itself, price, packaging, etc. While
in case of service brands, the tangibles include the customers’ experience. The intangibles
include emotional connections with the product.
Branding is assembling of various Marketing Practices medium into a whole so as to give you an
identity. It is nothing but capturing your customers mind with Spondon Rice Bran oil’s brand
name. It gives an image of an experienced, huge and reliable business
One of the four major elements of the Marketing Practices is price. Pricing is an important
strategic issue because it is related to product positioning. Furthermore, pricing affects other
Marketing Practices elements such as product features, channel decisions, and promotion. Price
is the quantity of payment or compensation given by consumers to the company in return for
goods. As the market of Rice Bran Oil is unpredictable sometimes it needs to lower the prices
and sometimes it needs to be rationalized. So price of Rice Bran Oil doesn’t remain constant due
to lack of stability of economical environment, change at exchange rate, high interest and
political unrest. Facing these complexities, Emerald Oil Industries Ltd. tries to continually
examine and reexamine the prices to make affordable price for the target customers.
In a manufacturing company the production function may be split into five
Sub Functions:
1. The production and planning department will set standards and targets
For each section of the production process. The quantity and quality of products coming
off a production line will be closely monitored. In businesses focusing
on lean production, quality will be monitored by all employees at every stage
of production, rather than at the end as is the case for businesses using .
2. The purchasing department will be responsible for providing the
materials, components and equipment required to keep the production process running
smoothly.
3. The stores department will be responsible for stocking all the necessary
tools, spares, raw materials and equipment required to service the
manufacturing process. Where sourcing is unreliable, buffer stocks will need
to be kept and the use of computerised stock control systems helps keep stocks
at a minimal but necessary level for production to continue unhindered.
4. The design and technical support department will be responsible for
researching new products or modifications to existing ones,
estimating costs for producing in different quantities and by using different
methods. It will also be responsible for the design and testing of new product
processes and product types, together with the development of prototypes.
5. The works department will be concerned with the manufacture of
products. This will include the maintenance of the production line and other necessary
repairs. The works department may also have responsibility for quality
control.A key aspect of modern production is ensuring quality. The term quality
means fitness for purpose i.e. a product, process or service should do exactly what is
expected of it.
4. MARKETING DEPARTMENT
This department is managed by Mr. Adnan Toor. He introduced me to my supervisor Mr. Sami
Ullah. Different activities were managed here. I studied different brochures that are attached as
appendix too and questioning was held that what understanding I got through brochures about
company. A detailed scenario about the workings of the department was summarized to me by
my supervisor. The software through which dealings are transacted was shown to me, detailed to
me and I got to know how the invoices are prepared through it. The Assistant Manager Mr.
Naeem especially held a meeting with me. He is a very nice natured person. He briefed me about
every person in department and also gave the blessings of his part in department. I was assigned
the duty to find and list out the competitors and sketch competitor analysis of product lines. That
is also attached as appendix. I was assigned to design some posters for the company. As being
marketing student the link with promotion and advertisement exists. It was really creative and
intellectual work which was appreciated. Assistant Manager made a sitting to discuss designing
of job advertisement, as they are designing and planning to make a new visual ad. This kind of
intellectual working and practical doings has always attracted me and that is why I joined
marketing. A detailed discussion was done on how the products are produced and how they are
packed and how the order is dispatched off and the distribution channel adopted by Industry. I
came to know after a discussion with my supervisor that how the employees take orders from
customers and how they deliver it. Sometimes delivery order could not be made possible, I
observed the way how they tackled the situation and handle customers.
Supervisor provided me dealer‟s Ledger reports of different regions for analytical study purpose.
I discussed about different sale packages with my supervisor i.e. Salary or incentives etc. I
started to take interest in understanding various marketing policies like trade discounts, discounts
on dealership etc. In between Eid holidays came and after that when I returned I made a visit
with my sales executive to Lahore in Metro and Hyper star to see and learn dispatch off process
of products.
