Week 2:
What did you find out about your target audience
through your secondary research?
I found out that they usually have university-level
education and a job that requires that level of education.
They also have the highest amount of social connections,
sending a median of 50 texts a day, and can multitask
when needed. They usually pay up to 40% of their wages
in taxes and will prefer to watch factual, sports and
true-crime programming. They also spend less on
themselves but more on their family.
How will this help you in adapting your idea to meet the
chosen audience?
I will include references to serial killers in ‘Killer I.P’
as well as showing the main character of my music video
as a businesswoman when she’s older and regretting it. I
came to this idea following extensive research into my
target audience and what lives they lead. Even though
they have the most education some still end up in
dead-end jobs that they hate.
How useful was interviewing people from your chosen
target audience?
Once I actually get the interviews I believe they will
be very useful for me.
Was it difficult to get a large response to your survey?
How could you improve the number of respondents for
your FMP?
It was very difficult to get responses to my surveys, I
could try using different platforms on social media or
even ask my teachers to send it to others within the
target audience.
Week 3:
What genres have you chosen and why?
I have chosen alternative rock as my music genre as
well as horror for my short animation. These are 2 genres
that my target audience show more interest in compared
to comedy or pop music which are also very popular
genres.
What have you learnt from your secondary research this
week?
I have learnt that for something to be considered
scary it doesn’t have to show you the monster as just an
implication of fear is scarier than showing the beast
people fear.
How will this influence what you include in your
productions?
I will include music to create a scarier atmosphere,
building sounds up to a breaking point of the scene. I will
keep the killer faceless. I plan on making the scenes feel
realistic. I will also try to show character relationships as
well as bring them to a breaking point.
For my music video, I might try to use symbolistic
scenes to make a character look or feel trapped or seem
free and innocent, as well as showing the divide being
broken. I will try to add depth to my characters.
What are the key conventions for your chosen genres?
The key convention for a narrative music video is to
show a narrative while having performance elements as
well. The key conventions of horror are to show tension,
fear and a show how those emotions impact the
characters, be it psychological or physical. In some
cases, you can show the monster be they human or not.
What must you include for it to be that genre?
For my work to match the genres the music video
must show a clear narrative and for the horror short, it
must show a clear reason that people would be afraid of
the monster.
Are you on track for this week?
For once I am actually on track.
What work needs to be completed in your own time?
I still need to complete the work from week 1 and 2.
Week 4
What have you learnt from your primary research this
week?
From my primary research, I have learnt that in
order to make my horror production scarier I need to
add subtly changing background music or something
akin to that effect.
What developments do you need to make to your
production for it to meet these codes and conventions
requirements?
I need to change the number of frames I draw for it
to last long enough. I will attempt to use things I have
seen in other productions such as the eerie amount of
detail or the sketchy but understandable drawing style.
How did processing the results of your research help you
to understand it thoroughly?
I still do not understand the wording of certain sites
I used for research, however, this is more likely to be a
problem with the way my brain works rather than how the
websites are written.
Are you on track for the week?
I am mostly on track for this week.
What work needs to be completed in your own time?
I need to draw out the frames for both productions.
Week 5
What did you learn from your planning?
I learnt from my planning that I will, in fact, need
more time to film than I originally thought.
How will this be useful as your production process
continues?
This will help me adjust things that I need to fix in
the time that I do not spend filming or drawing the
frames.
What issues did you encounter whilst planning and how
did you overcome them?
I have encountered issues such as having to cut
down on detail or make my work quicker and therefore
with less quality. When I wanted to print out my images I
had a major issue with the printer ink. I asked James, my
marking teacher for help and we printed the images out
smaller and it took much less ink and was incredibly
quick.
How much work did you complete outside of the lessons?
To be honest, I only worked on the frames outside of
class, I prioritised them over everything.
Are you ready to film next week and if not, what do you
need to complete to be ready?
I am ready to film next week.
Are your storyboards up to standard?
As my production is stop-motion I do not need to do
storyboards.
Week 6
How did you find the filming process?
The filming process was very easy as all I needed to
do was photograph each of the frames after they were
printed and positioned correctly.
Did you encounter any problems during filming? How did
you overcome them?
I had the problem of controlling my pets but I just
got my parents to monitor them whilst I filmed. I also had
a minor mental breakdown over how it looked. During my
initial shoot, everything was out of focus, then during my
second shoot, it was a bit too yellow. These are things I
will take into account for my FMP.
After reviewing footage, what do you feel you need to
reshoot?
I do not feel like I need to reshoot anything.
However, I will admit my idea became a lot shorter due to
time constraints.
What new techniques from your previous units have you
tried to use?
I haven’t actually used any techniques from previous
units as they would only be well executed in video format
instead of stills.
Are the locations you filmed at suitable for your
production?
My locations are suitable for my production, the
main problem will be the lighting.
Are you keeping up with your production schedule?
I am actually keeping up with my production
schedule.
What footage still needs capturing?
I need to film my other production.
Week 7
How did you find the filming process?
I found the filming process fairly easy after I had
sorted all my problems out. With my second production, I
had the issue that after I had fully edited it. It still looked
too orange, This is something I will need to take into
account for my FMP.
Did you encounter any problems during filming? How did
you overcome them?
I didn’t encounter any more problems this week,
whilst filming, however, upon watching it back I realise
now it looks wrong in colour but just slightly.
After reviewing footage, are you happy with what you
have captured?
After reviewing the footage I am happy with the
footage I have, even though it will need
colour-correcting.
Have the techniques you planned on using turned out
well?
The techniques I used worked out pretty well, but
those are just my thoughts.
Week 8
How are you finding the editing process this week?
Once I found out the correct way to input the images
I found it very easy to edit.
Have you encountered any problems whilst editing? How
did you overcome them?
I encountered some issues with inputting how long
the frames should last but I managed to edit it to make
all my issues with the edit vanish.
Are there any new techniques you are trying to use
during this editing process?
Batch processing images to input them with less
trouble once they’ve been imported into premiere pro.
Are you on track with all of your work?
I am mostly on track.
What work needs to be completed outside of lessons?
I’m sure something needs to be completed but it has
currently slipped my mind.
Week 9
How did you find the editing process?
As I said before once I knew how to correctly edit
and input things I found it easy and quick.
Have you encountered any problems whilst editing? How
did you overcome them?
I haven’t encountered any problems since last time.
Are you happy with the outcome of your productions?
Why?
I am reasonably happy with it. Then again I hold
myself to extremely high standards which can be very
unattainable and harsh sometimes.
How did your productions meet your target audience?
I believe that they meet my target audience as the
people I know within my target audience are pleased with
it, my cousins that I have sent my productions are
pleased with the quality and the storyline for both
productions.
What aspects of your productions could have been
better targeted to your audience?
I don’t know what could’ve been better targeted
towards my chosen audience, possibly the character
design or how dark the horror short was.
How effectively have you matched the codes and
conventions you researched earlier in the unit?
I think I did pretty well with matching the codes and
conventions for both, for example having dark
backgrounds like the forest in my horror short matched
the codes and conventions pretty well.
How do you feel your work compares to existing
professional productions?
I feel my work is lacking but then again animation in
such a short time frame is rather difficult.
Are there any areas where your production falls short?
How would you improve it next time?
I would definitely improve my editing but also maybe
change the colour grading.
What have you learnt about yourself to take into the
Final Major Project? What do you personally need to
improve on?
I have learnt that I take extreme pride in producing
an excellent art piece, so, even though it might take
forever to produce I am hoping that I can improve my
artwork for my Final Major Project.
Are you on track with all of your work?
I’m not too sure but I should be close.
What work needs to be completed outside of lessons?
Uploading my pitch.
Week 10
How did you choose to pitch your idea?
I chose to do a powerpoint presentation but mainly
talked through how I did everything.
What made your pitch stand out and be different? Why
would it convince someone to invest?
I Included a lot if my own artwork in my pitch and I put
reference Images on the screen so I could go into detail
about certain things, for example, the importance of
locations and characters.
How did the pitch go?
I think it went rather well even though I was
extremely nervous.
Is there anything you would do differently in your next
pitch?
Definitely rehearse like a million times.
