Luke 8:1–10:37
1.
- We could just ignore what was said or done to us. We could just move on
and forget what happened and forgive the person. Or if something was
really badly said or done to us, we could talk to them privately and settle
it without any anger or contention.
- We’ll have a troubled-free heart! We’ll have no hard feelings. We’ll have
true joy and peace.
2. To help you consider what could hinder you from fully following Jesus Christ,
copy the following chart into your scripture study journal. Then list in your chart
four or five responsibilities of a disciple of Jesus Christ. For each responsibility you
identify, list examples of other priorities that someone might put above that
responsibility.
- A young woman in my ward was having a hard time choosing if she will
still go attend her seminary class that night while having a huge amount of
school works. She was very worried that she might not be able to finish
everything if she’ll continue to attend her seminary. But, she still did attend with
faith in Jesus Christ that she’ll be helped. In the end, she did submit everything
on time. I know that as we do first what Heavenly Father expects of us to do,
we’ll be blessed with His grace.
4. Imagine that you have a friend who is struggling to love someone who
annoys, disappoints, or angers him or her. In your scripture study journal, write a
brief letter to your friend, explaining what we can learn from this parable about
loving others and how we can strive to be like the good Samaritan.
- Sometimes it’s really hard to get along with every people we get to
meet. There will be a time in our lives that no matter how patient we are and
understanding to the people around us, there will be one whom we can’t really
get along. But, I remember the story of the Good Samaritan. He saw this Jew
lying on the road of Jericho. Unconscious and filled with wounds and blood.
Though there was an intense hatred between the Samaritans and the Jews, this
Good Samaritan did not think twice if he will help this Jew that’s been beaten
up. The Good Samaritan was unique in all those that have passed by this Jew.
He was the only one who had compassion. And we too can be like the Good
Samaritan. Though everybody dislikes that one person that annoys, disappoints,
and makes anyone angry, you could be the one to be patient with him/her. You
could be the Good Samaritan.
Luke 10:38–12:59
1. List as many of the choices you made yesterday as you can in one minute.
Once you are finished, take a look at the entire list, and mark some of the good
choices you made. What are some situations in which we might have to decide
between two good choices?
- Be someone’s company
- Thank my classmate for fixing my hair
2.
a. Write one way in which you have been blessed for putting spiritual matters
ahead of temporal concerns.
- My joy was more full. I’ve been blessed with a sound mind and heart.
b. Select at least one spiritual matter that you want to focus on more, and write
a goal regarding what you will do to make this spiritual matter a higher priority in
your life.
- Having time for the scriptures. I will do my best to balance my time. I will
allot a time for studying the scriptures and for studying school subjects.
Through the years it’s been really hard for me to balance secular learning
and spiritual learning but I know that as I really exert my effort and desire
to balance both, I know I can do it.
3. Write in your scripture study journal about a time when you received an
answer to your prayers as you persistently sought Heavenly Father’s blessings.
- Our family was at that time praying for good health for my eldest Sister.
She’s been married for 3 years but she haven’t still had a baby because
of her thyroidism. It’s hard for her and her husband to start a bigger family
while being sick. So our family fasted and prayed for them. And now, our
prayers have been answered and she’s now pregnant and are expecting
their firstborn on March 2020! Truly, Heavenly Father has His own timetable.
He knows when will be the perfect timing for these blessings to arrive.
Luke 13–15
1. Ponder ways in which you can help those who are less fortunate than you,
and write a goal to serve them.
2. Think about what it will cost, or require, for you to be a true disciple of the Lord
Jesus Christ. Consider the blessings of living the gospel and the reward of eternal
life. What decisions could you make now that would help you place the Lord
above all other priorities in your life?
3. What kinds of things can you do to help a person who is spiritually lost to have
a desire to repent or draw closer to Heavenly Father?
Luke 16
1. How can you righteously use earthly riches as a youth? How can you do this
as an adult?
2.
a. Why do you think conversion comes primarily through believing and heeding
the words of prophets rather than by witnessing miracles or seeing angels?
- Conversion is a process. It will not come to us in just one day. We have to
search, ponder, and pray about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We
have to exert and effort from us to be able to truly be converted.
Witnessing miracles or seeing angels might help but it will not lead us to
conversion. Just like Laman and Lemuel, though they have seen great
miracles and have seen an angel, they still murmured and rebelled
against their family. Without the desire to believe and listen to the
prophets words, conversion will not happen.
